Lakeside Domain Freedom Camping

Nice place to camp for a night or two. Not much to do there unless you like to fish or bird watch.Beautiful views over the lake, especially watching the sun set over it.

Nice to find a spot to camp round here, and it was really nice. Water was shut off in the morning as I think there was work being done on it.Definitely a permanent spot for some, but the vibes were good so no issues.Nice view to wake up to!

Got everything you need to have when camping . They would have to be the cleanest toilets i have been in , I've probably said that before . The freedom park is spread over around 3 ha. There's around 30 motorhomes, caravans and tents spread over the Lakeside Domain . Plenty of shelter through out the camp . Lake is busy with jet skis.

Great camping area, huge, lots of hedges and trees to make your own space.**toxic algae****Cannot swim there.Has amazing toilets, showers,wash basins.. dumpsters.. could accommodate many campers..Beautiful spot. But mayflies do their thing here. They don't bite but would probably annoy those in tents. Be good if councils could at least get the water standard up to scratch.Back again 15/6/22 no mayflies at present.. parked by water so no frost.Below is a pic of map showing all selwyn County camps and details..great assets

A great and free campground. Excellent toilets and a cold-water shower. Rubbish skips. Area well-maintained but some parts prine to surface water. Lots of midges but they do not bite.

Big Freedom Camping Place. The Toilet is outstanding. With soap, running water and light. They even have a cold shower. Plenty of space.

Very good camping areaLake Ellesmere is New Zealand's fifth largest lake and has a huge biodiversity of birdlife. The lake is actually a lagoon covering 20,000 hectares and is a mix of fresh and salt water. The lake is surprisingly unknown and under used as a recreational resource. It is an awesome place for fishing, bird watching, walking, mountain biking and all types of water sports.This site is the habitat of the Mayfly, which at different times of the year swarm in very large numbers.They are not mosquitoes, nor do they bite or sting.There are boat ramps and lake access all around the lake as well as a couple of camping/ picnic areas.This is a designated freedom camping area supported by the Selwyn District Council. The Timber Yard Point Lakeside Domain can be found at Timber Yard Road, just off the Lake Road.
