Turnbull House
Turnbull House in WellingtonVisited on 31/1/2019I am attracted to this building because of its name, Turnbull House. A former Prime Minister of Australia was Malcolm Turnbull. Well, there is no connection between Malcolm Turnbull and Turnbull House.I cannot figure out the exact building style of Turnbull House, but a ccombination of medieval and Scottish Baronial architecture.Setting among some modern high rise, and near the Behive, Turnbull House looks tured and like needs some refreshing. It was built as a private home and with a library by Akexander Turnbull, who was a collector of books, paintings, historical letters, maps and artefacts. The New Zealand government purchased the building in early 20s. Years of neglect nearly resulted in demolition in the 79s, but was spared due to public outcry.I am not sure it is still open to the public due to the last earthquake in 2012.
