Empire bakery
New favourite pie shop since Serenity is now way overpriced and Treat is now discriminatory. This bakery makes pies the proper way, with buttery short pastry on the base and flaky pastry on top. Highly recommend the steak, brie and capsicum pie.

Arrived here early Saturday morning. Ordered a flat white and a pie. The pie was steak, camembert, and roasted capsaicin, chocka full of ingredients and tasty. Clearly they know what they are doing.Price is getting up there, but still manageable and good bang for your buck. Recommended.Ps - it's a proper bakery, open 6 days a week from 4am...

SIMPLY AMAZING!!! These are some of the tastiest donuts and cakes I have had in NZ. Very reasonable price too. All the nurses in the department at Whangarei Hospital agree!! Thanks so much to the owner for his care and attention to details! Definitely coming back! Ps. I would have taken a photo but they got eaten so quickly!

Stopped in for a quick lunch for the first time. Grabbed a steak and cheese pie. It was really fatty, more fat than meat on the steak bits and there wasn't many of them. And the worst part was that it was cold in the middle. Won't be going back.

Great food and a great guy. I recommend the steak, capsicum and camembert cheese pie if you're that way inclined. Great takeaway coffee for first thing in the morning.

TLdr; don't waste your money.Possible the worse tasting pies iv had in whangarei. Both of the pies we got were lacking in flavor and poor texture, not to mention the amount of gelatine or cornstarch that was added to make it appear full.For 6 dollars a pie you would be happier with 2 big Ben's.

I tried a pie and it was average. Next visit I tried the long cream doughnut. Well one bite was enough. My hand was covered in grease leaking from the doughnut. Was the most disgusting bit of food I have ever brought. I took it back and got my money back.My advice give this place a big miss unless your standards of bakery food is the same as a pig or a dog that will eat anything.
