Interesting history as a refuge for settler woman and children under siege by local Maaori in 1864 . Memorial elected by grateful descendents

Fascinating history but as was the case in 1940 only records the pakeha narrative.one has to ask was it constant aggression and attempts to grab land by fair means or foul that created the situation. Perhaps a plaque facing the existing one should be erected in 2040 recording the Maori narrative. They can then stare each other down.

Great vantage point with views Southeast. Peaceful in the morning. An archeological site so no climbing ramparts. Little shags nesting on the Easterly boundary. Handy to the Rose Garden.

Interesting bit of early history. A lovely spot to have a picnic. The memorial plaque is worth reading.

Pleasant park to take a seat in, use the bathrooms, and pop over to the adjacent Robbins Park to visit the tropical house and rose gardens.

Very historic place in easy walking distance to a few other near sites (like The Elms). Nice views (so if your not in to history worth doing just for the view). Free also.

Quite a peaceful sorounding with trees. Rose gardens are pruned in July. Nice view over the waterfront. Access to public loos.
