Better come before 8am or wait for space with chance

Incredible hike. If going for sunrise, make sure to get there extra early to snag a spot at the car park and give you enough time to get up.

Starting point to Roy's Peak hike. The parking might get full during early morning time so plan accordingly. That said there are people hiking even in the evening. Parking is free. Enjoy your hike. The hike is a constant uphill ascent with no shade. Bring enough water and sunscreen.

Plenty of parking when I arrived at 945am on a Monday. Almost half the lot empty. Took me 5 hours return on a warm summers day with minimal winds, including time for photos at the viewpoint and 15min lunch break at the summit. Better to start early morning when it’s less hot going up than to start in the afternoon when the sun is scorching. This entire track is on one side of the mountain face so u get a constant view of lake wanaka the whole way up and down. Makes the hiking less strenuous when you can enjoy the view anytime. The whole route is 100% exposed right from the start with no tree cover so don’t forget your sunblock, I got badly burnt. Some parts were relatively flat but most of it was gentle slope up (unlike Ben Lomond which had almost vertical rock cliffs near the summit).

Glorious mountain view. Take into consideration it is an 8 km hike uphill and bring enough water. Running shoes are fine in the summer.

Challenging hike all uphill but worth it for the “shot” at the top. Ripper of a day in Wanaka. Start early when there is full sun because no shade on trail. Jump in the lake after was really relaxing

Ample of free parking slots during off peak season. Do not leave any valuables in car. Our car's window got smashed but fortunately we didn't leave anything in the car.
