This is a great place to stay has a 1$ shower BBQ hard surface for vans or lawn for tents. Interesting local eccentrics drop by often. Close to the moonlight and croesus tracks. Hosted by friendly Les. 5$ a nite.

Cheap, not many spaces though. There was a noisy kereru in the bush and the river is at the bottom of a deep gully. Lovely sounds and lovely town.

Originally the Mine Managers house with stained glass and pressed metal wall panels it showed the enormous divide between the workers who lived in tiny shacks without running water or any comfort and the management. Led to a famous strike and the formation of the organised labour movement in NZ. A huge amount of history encapsulated in a small village and well worth the trip. The community are restoring the House and Hall to their former splendor.Camping for tents and several powered sites for caravans and Motorhomes are available at reasonable cost along with Coin operated showers and laundry facilities.

The place could really do with a makeover the gf grounds and toilet facilities are tired and toilets are in a poor state, the people on this day were as drab and sullen as the grounds, it's really a pity it isn't more supported by its local community in getting it back how it was twenty odd years ago 2/10 on this occasion

Small spot closest to the trailhead Te Ara Paparoa. Basic facilities (apparently due to vandalism) but still doubled the price per person per night ($10). No hot shower (to be paid extra), power not working (don't even consider putting the extra $10 in the envelope) and it stinks like urine around the sink. That's a rip off.

Loved the venue. Was a cold night, and the toilet lights didn't work. But a great time was had by all.

Blackball Community Centre has basic facilities but the town itself is my favourite town in New Zealand. The gift shop is incredible with many hand made articles to give as gifts. The butcher shop sells the most amazing tasting venison sausage and various other small goods that are sold all over Newport Zealand yet the Kiwis don't even know where the beautiful venison small goods are made. This includes my cousins who live in the North Island of New Zealand.

Great place to stay the night! Awesome grounds keeper (never hurts to say “thank you” fellow tourists!) and great campfire stories about the old house :)

Felt right at home. E.g run down a bit busted but basically holding it together just enough to keep up appearances. And that's enough, ok!
