honestly would give it zero stars if i could. Caller made me feel delusional and even though i was in an insanely bad situation she told me to go to a GP and then contact later" completely incompetent and with no empathy. Please do not use this service. I rang because I felt panicked over my situation and she made me feel absolutely stupid"

Absolutely the worst mental health service! They never work with urgency, they palm you off to other unhelpful services. They’ve never taken any of my calls seriously. They’ve hung up on me whilst having a panic attack. I was struggling to slow my breathing. I’ve been laughed at. I’ve waited half an hour on hold, only to be told that I need to call back when I’m more rational, again when I was seeking help in the middle of of a panic attack. Unless you’re about to jump off a cliff, they don’t care.

Pretty much just told me to call back in the morning. Very impersonal, was like speaking to a receptionist. I feel much worse than when I called.

Absolutely useless. Even when someone is literally about to kill themselves these peoole still turn people away. Mental health service? More like mental health issue.

They treat me with no respect, low empathy, no integrity, no transparency. A long waiting and difficult process. Some of their staff do not have the skill and empathy to do this job. They try to put me on pills (anti depressant) which my GP could just provide, and advice it would be an uncertain waiting time frame until the next step. Every week, they have 1 team meeting to discuss about your case. The staff who was handling my case was sick, then busy with others, then he got multiple reasons to miss his team weekly meeting. Then after he met with them, they came up and changed their treatment plan every week, and each time they changed their plan, you will have to wait without any idea when they are next available to help(as they are either busy, or they do not have the resources to help you). And while waiting for them to meet with you, you can just keep taking drugs. They also advise if you are in danger, feeling suicidal, you remember to make your way to the hospital. And if you cant wait, or request for a faster handling of the situation, they advise you to pay for your own treatment elsewhere. What an pleasant experience dealing with them. A waste of time, energy, killing hope, killing dignity. Some of their staff who do admin work via phone are lovely.

Waited 18 hours in er for these people to come see me as a mandatory part of my stay. Had a man tell me I was putting myself in my situation (extreme mental illness, financial despair due to disability) and it was basically my fault. If I just ~didn’t~ be like that it’d all go away! It’s a miracle I didn’t kill myself that night.I’ve decided from then on that I would genuinely rather die than ever be stuck in hospital talking to them, or even on the phone with them. Possibly the worst imaginable service. Not even specifically for the mentally distressed, just in general. Absolutely shocking. Horrible people.

I rang last night to express concern that the ‘aliens had landed in the back yard again’.The aliens land in my back yard every month, like clockwork.I thought the staffer ‘Mel’ brilliant for being empathetic and even going so far as to say ‘I know it seems real’.So nice to have genuine caring people working at Te Haika.I have to rate this conversation. - although I hope the aliens don’t land in my back yard ( next full moon :)
