Percy Scenic Reserve

I read on the notice board that the walk to the falls is a little challenging. (On other sites its described as an easy walk). The sign should recommend that older people, (I am 84), may need a walking stick. Lucky I had my daughter with me to help me up the stairs. There are lots of stairs, with no handrails, the bottom steps are often very high which adds to the difficulty with nothing to support you, as you try to step up. There is one corner with upward pointing rocks to navigate a path through and one part of the walk that was quite muddy. One good thing, for most of the walk, the bank is high and offers some support but I would have preferred not to touch the rocks and roots. Don't let the difficulty of the walk put you off, I made it there safely and it was well worth the effort. I just wish New Zealand would add some side rails to steps in national parks, and check that the bottom step when getting too high, has another step added. I love waterfalls.

A good picnic area with options for short walks. The waterfall track was quite beautiful. Can go with kids. However, the tracks to the lookout was quite steep. On the top there is a beautiful view.The picnic area was good to spend sometime with kids. A pond with lots of Duck is there which might interests kids. Also a small cave is there, good take photos but doesn't lead any where

One of the more accessible walks in Lower Hutt area. Senior-friendly with family picnic areas. There's also a nice horsetail-shaped waterfalls at the end of the track.

Lovely, grassy area for picnics in view of the duck ponds and bridge. Love the water wheel. Beatiful nature trail to the waterfall.

A feast for the eye. There is a very nice duck pond, the ducks are not afraid of humans. A nice little cave, and a 10 minutes walk to a nice waterfall. The light is perfect for a long exposure photo (8 seconds with no extra ND filters). I had a quality time with my family. I did't have time for the lookout but, I will go there once again for the Dam and the Lookout.

Percy Scenic Reserve is a hidden gem. I’ve lived in Wellington for 5 years before finally stumbling upon it. Highly recommended as a short relaxing walk through the bush!

Nice reserve with native bush and picnic areas near to central Lower Hutt. Make sure you check out the wetas in the cave and the waterfall (easy 10-20 min walk)

Nice park for a walk, a family picnic.Some steps to a waterfall, not suitable for elderly. But easy walking trails for all ages too.Lawns for picnic on a blanket or table and benches for a sit down.
