Very rewarding walk took about 1 1/2hrs great bird encounter saw saddlebacks and the views were spectacular from the summit

My son went here for a school trip once, and the mood he came back was ecstatic top to bottom. He asked if he could go next year and I said yes, so he was so happy. Sadly, Covid changed the situation. The trip was canceled.

I'm so glad my partner suggested Kawau Island for our weekend getaway. It was so peaceful and quiet. The only sound we could hear were birds and wildlife (and occasionally boats and helicopter).It was a beautiful and peaceful weekend away from Auckland :)Highly recommended :)

Love this island. Wild life abounds with Kiwi and Weka. Wallabies and Kookabara. The famous Mansion house built by sir George Grey and its majestic gardens. The walking tracks which leed you to the copper mine are easy going, but some of the other tracks can be a little more demanding. The smelting house ruins are worth a look as well and maybe have a beer at the boat ckub after.

Its pretty much hidden paradise, u can visit Mansion house, few walking tracks available. Say hi to Peacocks family and wallabies! If u lucky enough, explore the front coast line of Mansion house when its low tides. Its way too beautiful!! And talk to the rangers on island, they are super nice.
