Bushaven and Motu Trails Hire and Shuttle

Have just spent 5 days in this unique and special part of NZ with a family group. The hospitality of John and Virginia goes well beyond the usual and made it easy from the time we requested information about Bushaven and the surrounding area to the time we left. Bushaven sits in unquestionably one of the most beautiful places in NZ. It is one of few places that offers a lodge" experience at an affordable price. The facilites are great. Bushaven is a stunning place just to relax in beautiful surroundings and wth the sun go up and down in the middle of NZ's stunning bush if you want time out. A "must do" is to walk the dramatic and stunning Te Waiti track which you can access directly from Bushaven where you can walk through possibly the largest Nikau forest in NZ

Bushaven is a unique escape in the bush. We camped for two nights. Great facilities. Beautiful river. Bird choruses. Welcoming owners. Would definitely stay again & invite friends. Be aware, ring/book in advance... drive carefully on the gravel road in.

Bushaven has a magic setting and offers a good selection of accommodation options. Their location makes Bushaven an excellent jumping off point for a wide range of outdoor pursuits including cycling, hiking, fishing and hunting. They also offer a shuttle service for cyclists. John and Virginia are lovely hosts with a wealth of local knowledge to share.

Absolutely loved this little piece of paradise. 6 families headed there from around the North Island for my 40th celebrations and had a fantastic time. We used the camping ground with ample room for our tents and space for the kids to have a blast.We all enjoyed the stream adventures, waterfall walk, glow worms and so much more. Loved the place and highly recommend to all.The camp site actually has a lot of things already in place with basic pots, pans and a BBQ. The two fridge/freezers allow plenty of space for food and beverages. The whole place is Kiwi Rustic (a good thing) and keep very tidy.A must do for a few days away from the world!

Beautiful setting in the bush, with a stunning river & swim hole. Perfect for after our bike ride.Very friendly & helpful host.Clean & tidy facilities. Would definitely stay again. ;)

I've used Bushaven twice now to do the Pakahi Trail.. John is flexible & accommodating as to pick up location and drop-offs, depending on how much riding you want to do on the day! My advice would be a pick up near the bridge at the end of the Bushaven 'driveway'. John also has awesome local knowledge of the area and has some funny stories to tell on the drive to the drop off location - you even get to stop for a coffee/pie on the way :) Excellent trails, check the conditions before you book, and don't forget about the 10km dunes section just out of Opotiki.

Very beautiful bush and trail. Along the river is a single track that is not for anyone who is scared of heights. Also must be fit enough to carry your bike over slips and other obstacles on the trail. Probably easier in the summer. The road parts of the trails are very beautiful and remote with little to no traffic.
