Farewell Gardens Holiday Park

Stayed here a couple of times. The area for pitching your tent is a little native bird haven, surrounded by well presented and manicured gardens. The attention to the the fact that numbers are limited means that you get to know your neighbours and have a most relaxing visit. No nosy neighbours, loud music or obnoxious guests. Also stayed in the new cabins. Clean and well presented. Puponga itself is such an amazing place, lots of local walks, wildlife and scenery and fishing. Awesome place so much it should be a secret.

We loved this simple iconic kiwi campground and used it as a based for kayak and paddleboard trips ( during high tides). Lots of ( rare) birdlife and seals. The cabins are comfortable and clean the other facilities are basic. Very friendly and helpful owners. We stayed for 5 days it was so good.This is on our list of return for another kayak holiday"."

Very cute campsite!! It had everything we needed (showers, kitchen and washer etc), they deliberately don't overbook the place so it was nice and quiet, and the owners were so helpful and lovely. They gave great recommendations for things to do in the area. Would definitely recommend staying here!

An absolutely awesome getaway tucked away at the most northern point of the South Island. Stunning beaches and oh so quiet. Truly peaceful and relaxing.The camp sites are perfectly sheltered, not to much sun to make the tent unbearable but just enough to keep it warm. Laying in the tent watching the shadows from the trees play over the roof - in comfort!Facilities are clean, practical and well stocked - and no, you don't need to shower or toilet in the dark as another claims! Location is perfect for exploring the area (see photos) - and OMG - the birdlife and birdsong, especially in the mornings - it's magical! A truly wonderful way to wake up.The host's are lovely, welcoming and friendly - and with a little brandy Christmas cake hilarious!We have tried all the camp grounds in Golden Bay area now and Farewell Gardens Holiday Park is the stand out. We'll be back again for sure and we're looking forward to seeing you there!

Charged $40 for 2 adults to pitch a tent in uneven ground for 1 night. Extra if u wanted a shower. No seating or table in our area and treated like we lucky to be there. You wonder why locals don't support you - wouldn't recommend

Met owner of Farewell Gardens in January 2022, she seemed lovely, and we loved the camp ground. Called and made booking in April and told they had availability for our family of three for early January 2023. My partner and I organised time off work for our dates at Farewell Gardens. Owner contacted us in August to say that there was only a 3m x3m campsite available but that, in her experience, that’s as much as three people usually need. I responded that if we’d known in April that a 3m x3m campsite was all that was available we would have booked somewhere else for our summer holiday. Have been looking forward to our Farewell Gardens holiday all year and now we have to scramble and, hopefully, find somewhere else to stay in Golden Bay for these dates. Total lack of transparency and terrible communication. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

This is a pretty average place but they charge like 5 stars. $24 per person in a motorhome without power, among the most expensive so far. They have no rubbish system so you have to take everything out with you. Showers cost extra and you are not allowed to take water for your camper. Dogs whining all evening. So basically you are paying premium rates for a service that is similar to a DOC site which is $10…. don’t understand people who give this 5 stars, so much better to do your thing up here and then turn back to the old school or Collingwood for the night.

I regularly travel and stay away from home for my job but I was so impressed with the Customer Service of the hosts at Farewell Gardens. The Cabins there are beautiful, despite some “off” weather my partner and I felt warm and cosy inside during the day and overnight. The Camp had everything we needed and was located perfectly for our planned activities over our three day stay.

If you want a beautiful, peaceful campsite, this is the place to go. Seperate little garden for tents, right by the beach, super friendly and welcoming staff and their two beautiful dogs. Love how its so eco friendly. Great location for all the sights. :)
