I highly recommend this shuttle service. My mom and I did the Tongariro Alpine Crossing on 15 Nov 2022. We took the 7:15am shuttle and began the hike from the Mangatepopo starting point at about 8am. As my mom is close to her 70s, she took quite a bit of time on the hike. In the end, we took about 10 hours, and missed the latest 5:15pm shuttle back to National Park. The team arranged a van just to pick us up at the Ketetahi end point at 6pm. We are deeply appreciative of Thomas and everyone at NPS who helped us. They truly live by their motto of leaving no one behind!" Huge thanks again."

Due to bad weather our shuttle was cancelled (good call). They were late notifying us, possibly because our phones didn't work. Money was paid back in a few days.

After we turned around and phoned them, they left us at the drop-off for 2 hrs in the cold. Did eventually get us back to the car park, which is why it's 2 stars.

Our group of 7 very eager and tired wanna be badasses arrived to the national park at 6am without making any arrangements in how to get to the Tongariro Crossing. Luckily we saw this bus with a phone number on it and we called it without expecting them to answer. To our surprise they did and in just 30 minutes we were picked up and beginning our first great walk of the year. Tracey on the phone organized our pick up and Thomas our driver got us there while pointing out where to grab some amazing steaks after hike. And we damn sure grab those steaks and it was awesome. Thanks to them we hit off 2019 without a hitch.

Top organised, but very overpriced. 47 NZD for a one-way trip to the starting point. After a 20 km hike, you have to walk another 1 km back to the car park. According to the driver, a large part of the fee is used for the maintenance of the hiking trail. In fact, at least 10 km of the downhill trail is paved with plastic mats fixed with thousands of steel hooks. The holes in the mats are filled with gravel that does not come from there and therefore had to be brought up the mountain, presumably by helicopter. Quite a few of these plastic mats lie next to the path. Not really an example of respect for nature, more of mass tourism at any price.Even forest paths are paved with these mats. Of course, carting thousands of tourists up there every day brings in more money than offering this hike only to those who have the prerequisites. Felt sorry to support this.
