So dissapointed. The front of house staff, we're exceptional. The kitchen staff complete opposites, not sure if they were on drugs or just inept. 7 of us dined there. There were very few other guests. We ordered two garlic loaves, they arrived 30 minutes later and were still frozen in the middle, we sent them back and they came out still frozen, butter wouldn't melt. An hour and a half later our mains finally arrived, two of us had to leave and take doggy bags as they were heading to Dunedin.Chips were over cooked, chicken was inedible, nothing nice about the food. I really felt sorry for front of house staff as they did a awesome job. If only the kitchen was half as good

Northstar Motel Restaurant & Bar
We popped in here for a late breakfast. They don't actually have a breakfast menu, but we had a very reasonably priced ribeye steak cooked to our order and delicious. The fries that came with it were seasoned nicely and the side salad was really tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it didn't break the bank.

Food was overcooked, small portions, and basically all fries. Not what we were expecting. Usually enjoy our meals there but it's all going downhill. Service was un professional.

Went to the North Star restaurant for a team lunch and had one of the best lunches I think I’ve ever had. The food was full of flavour, warm and delicious, just what I needed to fill my grumbling stomach on a cold day. The service was immaculate, friendly staff who greeted us with smiles and some lovely chat. I would be back here in a heartbeat and I highly recommend to anyone in Oamaru, or anyone who is near because I would drive 45 minutes to get a meal like this again. Thanks to North Star!!!

The service was fine but the food was over good, some at my table got steak and it was over cooked, I got fish of the day eg sole, it was over crumbled and deep fried so muck the fish was dry and crumb so hard. The entree squid I got 4 tiny mouth fall of squid it was over cooked and chewy and rest was coleslaw drowned in soya sauce , so it was sooo salty. Horrible there were 17 in my group and 2 got pulled pork and liked that and 2 got lamb shanks and liked that. So 4 out of 17 not good we wont be going back nothing really has changed over the years as far as food goes.

Absolutely wonderful stuff, very pleasant and friendly, I'm vegan and had a vegan salad with roasted veggies and Couscous and I have to say I've been vegan for years and it's the best meal I have had and well priced for the sizing you get , so big shutout to the chef, brilliant, will definitely be coming back and staying and having our meals there, thanks guys ❤❤

So, the service was really disappointing, the young fella, who had his ear pod in while working, muttering at best, then the young woman, black hair, black clothes and not a smile or pleasnt tone to be heard.Food wise, its cleverly made menu, where you pick yr meat, then sides $7 so $14 for salad n fries, and then pay for your sauce of choice, it adds up and they make a good profit for a fish n chips meal. All n all, wont buy dinner there again.
