Officially the walkway is closed, due to storm damage. But you can easily walk the track and pass the damage.

Best to start the walk from the Pukeko store end. Great walk.

A truly beautiful and picturesque walk up a winding track and down the otherside. Surrounded by wild bush and babbling brooks, this is definitely worth a stop.

The walk is easy and a bit hilly. You're in the forest the entire time looking at mossy and ferny trees and little streams. Nice path with no real mud issues. Not many people seem to do it. Should be good for kids.As the DOC page describes, there are two well marked signs on the southern side of the highway. The western one (that Google maps marks) is not well labeled past that -- you have to walk across a gravel road (private driveway?) past someone's house and to the path that goes between farm fences with animals in them. This is a public right of way which crosses a stream and quickly goes up into the forest. The eastern entrance is much more obvious if you'd rather go that way.You can park on the road either way.
