Piha Domain Motor Camp

We had a great stay at the Piha Domain Motor Camp. The owners were friendly and open for a nice chat. The toilet and kitchen facilities were clean and well equipped. Please note that you can only book online, there's no way to book at the Park itself. And (which was a bit frustrating for us) it's 2 night minimum stay. As we really wanted to stay in Piha Beach, we had to change our travel plans. With only four weeks of vacation, it's not too easy and we were annoyed, that there was no other way.

Friendly staff, family environment with like minded tourists. People are respectful of each other's space and felt comfortable going to the beach leaving the tent behind unattended and bbq chairs and tables outside as everyone did the same.Campsite is set up as a ring road, logical and each site has ample room to accomodate a very large camper van, gazebo with room to spare.Not suited for drinking party campers with loud music.Wifi available. 100MB / day free or $5 unlimited for 48 hrs. Cell phone coverage is good all round for Spark and Vodafone.Kitchen facilities are generally clean. Only need to bring a tea towel as wash cloths, dish washing detergent was provided for. Had two microwaves and 4 hotplates, each with a large and small element.Shower facilities are kept clean, ruined only by your neighbours if they don't clean up after themselves. Staff can only do so much as they are cleaned daily.Surprised there was hot showers after 9pm at night.Access tags required to gain entry in into camp past barrier arm, toilet facility and shower timer. Push to start / re-start showers.No open fires allowed. BYO your own cookers or BBQ and the staff offer herbs grown on site or they leave a friendly note to help yourself to tomatoes if available.If your gluten free and / or celiac they have plenty of option at the two store right next door and they sell tip top vegan ice cream at camp office.Water tastes a bit funny but drinkable. Otherwise BYO water to last unless you want to pay $1 per litre of water from their cooler.I'm summary a very good experience and the staff set a good and safe precedence. Plenty to do, sights to see and children friendly.

Thanks for the stay. Really enjoyable. Easy to book online. Check in at the office and receive a dongle that opens the main gate and gets you into the shower/ toilet block. Also use the dongle to turn on the hot water in the shower.Plenty of hot water and good pressure and everything clean and in good working order.We had an unpowered tent site. Nice grass, flat and lots of choices.As always with this campground is the one minute walk across the road to the Piha General Store for great coffee and pastries.There's also the cafe next door for lunch.Nice and safe for kids to ride their bikes or scooters and there's heaps of beach or bush walks nearby.

One of the best places we have been on our NZ roadtrip. A bit of a trek down winding roads but we'll worth it.The staff are super friendly and helpful.We stayed out of season so the price was slightly reduced and had longer shower coupons (9mins of hot water per day instead of 6). The camp ground was quiet due to time of the year so it was very peaceful and we had a choice of where to park.The toilet and shower block was clean.Piha beach was beautiful. You can swim or surf, just be careful of the uneven sand and strong currents. There is a cafe and shop across the road.

Interesting beach with greyish black sand that is too hot to walk on barefoot. Otherwise, seems mostly attractive to surfers and sand playing kids.

Great scenery all around, picturisque sunset down the horizon and soon the sky full of shining stars. The owner, Fiona, is warm hearted, very careful and with great attention in detail. I love it.

Loved it ... rustic and friendly atmosphere... nice and tidy with good amenities and friendly and helpful staff...a stone's throw from beach, lagoon and Lion Rock, KiteKite Falls... would happily stay again

Warmhearted hospitality, conscientious care.The campground kept nice, equipped with kitchen and laundry.The Tasmanian Sea and the big rock is enchanting.Fiona and Martin went above and beyond to make sure our needs are met.We arrived from overseas a bit late. Fiona not only waited for us, but when she learned that we came straight from the airport without grocery shopping, she gave us handmade (vegan) soup, bread, coffee and cookies.Not just that: because of the big storm and rain we expected overnight, she sat out to the river to check whether it was flooding or not, to ensure she warned the camp if we needed to evacuate. (We didn't.)It surely was some higher power intervention to made me lose my key the next day at the Tasmanian Sea that got me to stay an extra day in this Earthly Paradise.Never forget. If i can, i return.Thank you!
