Sila Restaurant & Takeaway
I had the mixed grill as a takeaway dinner. As per the menu, it had lamb, chicken kofeta and a beef pattie. The lamb had four pieces thay were of mixed quickly with one piece being vey tough. The chicken and kofeta were ok but the kofeta was very salty. The beef pattie was ok. The little mixed rice was bearly warm. The salad was also ok, but the dips were less than average. The meat wasn't cooked over charcoal as expected, and simply cooked on a hot plate, and more steamed than grilles, so the overall taste was less than ideal. There was very little bread, but the little they provided was nice. Overall a 2-3 star meal, where I expected a 4 star meal as per the google maps rating. I will try other places next time.

On my travels I like to try Turkish restaurants so I went to Sila. It is a big place nicely decorated. Staff is welcoming and friendly. Food was great and the serving was big, probably too big but I ate it all. My chicken grilled salad was great and nicely seasoned and spicy. The table could be cleaned a bit better and entry door does not close fully on its own so cold southerly comes in quickly. Apart from that, it is all good.

Love the atmosphere of this place, the interior design is gorgeous and feels very cosy & intimate. Great for both group gatherings (bookings recommended) and for a more intimate romantic meal for a couple. The food itself is amazing, by far my preferred Turkish place in Dunedin. And although it's not cheap, I think it's reasonably priced for what they offer. The staff are friendly and helpful without being pushy, and are very aware & helpful when it comes to dietary restrictions & allergies - and they'll readily double check with the chef if need be.

Always a delicious, generous meal. Service was a bit slow on this occasion due to staff illness, but the food was yummy. A bit of a cold draft made one of our party a bit colder than she'd have liked. Love the variety of dishes, and the flavours are always lovely. Have been here before, and will definitely be back.

What a great find this week! Beautiful tasty food, wonderfully presented and reasonably priced, Sila is a great option if you fancy Turkish food. Although the wine list is limited, the price is outstanding. Can thoroughly recommend Sila.

It is utterly disappointing that this restaurant can’t accommodate food allergies. This evening, a customer at my table was refused accommodating any service with their allergies they have for fear as they didn’t want to risk liability for any potential burden this would give them. Isn’t accommodating the customer’s needs with their food allergies a core attribute to a Food Safety Registered restaurant? I am both surprised at Sila Restaurant and Takeaway’s behaviour, and astonished that The Dunedin City Council would tick these practices as acceptable Food Safety Standards. This raises many questions…

Wonderfull food, but the worst service I have had in many many years of dining out. Booked in a week ahead, waited an hour for a drink order, and even longer for food. I will not return. Shame on you Sila. You even stuffed up the drink orders.

Yesterday I was denied service due to food allergies at Sila. It wasn’t that they didn’t have anything I could eat, it came down to them not wanting to take the hygiene precautions to keep me safe, or the liability if something happened. In attendance with a big group of ~50 other guests, I went to talk to them at the start and was told to sit back down, when they came to take my order they then said they’ll come back to me as I was a ‘special case’, then later telling me I could not eat here.Upon questioning them, no they will not cater for allergies nor those with Coeliac. Severe food allergies and Coeliac are considered to be a ‘disability’ and as such, not accomodating people with them is considered a form of discrimination. I have been sure to spread the word about this within the allergy community.I have been to plenty of other restaurants in Dunedin with less options available given my allergies, but was still able to safely eat due to the care given by staff. Sila was not willing to make these accomodations for me. This also raises an issue of food hygiene if they can’t produce foods that are not contaminated by other foods. Very disappointed.

Very distinct flavor. Huge plate reasonable price. Huge place. Has gluten free and dairy free choices. Pictures are chicken shish, walnut dip and some meze. For those who rated them low because of beer and wine... it’s a Turkish restaurant... [eyes rolling]
