Hard not to compare this one to other Mercure hotels, but it’s quite obvious this is a budget friendly version.Room 710 which boasts a “city view”, is a view of the parking garage and someone’s rooftop pot plant storage area, so I guess that’s accurate for Wellington city. Thickness of the duvet was pathetic so don’t forget to grab an itchy woollen blanket from the cupboard during winter, otherwise if you want to wake up with dry skin and an even drier mouth keep the heat pump on.Location is by far the best part of this hotel.

Whomever is taking their professional photos of this room is amazing, because these photos are not reflective of the rooms at this hotel unfortunately. The hotel is well located to walk to everything. And there is a very small underground parking garage only if you have a small car. Very claustrophobic, but does the job.The hallways of this hotel have such low ceilings, it was very claustrophobic feeling to walk down them. The floors seemed uneven underneath the carpet also.I think the most concerning is the bathroom. The shower is tiny & the shower head isn't high enough for someone 5'10. But the exhaust for the shower was so full of dust that no steam was exhausting. The windows and drapes were gross (stains on the drapes).Overall

Rooms were suitable, checking was hassle-free and fast. But hard to find cos of one way streets. Limited parking on street.

The hotel is pretty tired. Staff and location are great. Avoid room 701 as there's a very large industrial extractor outside running night and day. At standard rates it's what you'd expect for the price, with jacked concert night rates it was far from value for money.

The only two good things about it are the location and the reception lady. The hotel is not clean, you have to ask for house keeping at the reception before 10 am. The car parking was 35NZ$ instead of 20 NZ$ that was listed online (per day). You cannot leave your car after check out even if only for an hour.Very noisy and no A/C gets hot in the room. The curtains are not good so a constant light from the parking garage was coming through. Your hear all your neighbours and a lot of noice coming from outside. Not a pleasant stay. Will not recommend and would never go back. Very dusty, dirty weird stains and broken glass in the room.

Unless major improvement is being prioritised, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone as sad as that is. My room had a mixture of bed bugs and fleas in both the single & double bed that I had woken the first morning to find bites all over my body and actually caught a flea in the single bed the next morning. The walls and windows need to be soundproof because you can hear anything and everything in the hall and from your next door neighbour. Dinner was pretty average and chef forgot our entrees but breakfast buffet was alright for the main part. The only other flaw was how loud the traffic was but location plays a major part in that when you’re located right in the heart of the city. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and accomodating, and very apologetic when I requested new sheets and presented the issue of the bites. Hotel has potential to do well, hope they sort out the bed bug and flea issue pronto.

Last minute booking during Matariki Festival- checked into room 707 with 2 kids, room itself wasn't the greatest but wasn't too shabby either- found a few hairs in my sheets but wasn't sure if they were my own as I had only just hopped into bed, had a heatpump/a.c which was good- room didn't have a little sink to fill the jug so have to use bathroom sink so i passed on that. The streets were noisy and there's drunks walking around screaming laughing etc but that's what's expected staying in the city, a few doors down from my room were drunks playing loud music and having a party, they left around 11pm, but the slamming of doors further down the hall was definitely annoying. Breakfast was good in the Cafe downstairs. Lift access with key card which was safe. View was all good. Reception staff were great, letting us push checkout till 12. Central to everything. Payed 35 for parking as It was hard enough to find street parks in the zone.
