Waiting for my son after school, I bought two steak and cheese pies. I left one on the back seat for him and I had mine absorbing the calm on Margaret Road. Oh my gosh - that is a good pie. The sheer joy when my son bit into his pie. Lovely way to round off a week. The Village Baker never disappoints.

Hands down the best pie I've ever had!!!The filling is NOT a cornstarchy goo, like many other places including Rays Pies and Kapiti Bakery. I especially love the Chicken pie which has the most creamy delicious filling with tons of chicken and seasoned to perfection.The white chocolate cranberry cookies need some help, I couldn't find any white chocolate in them but the cookie itself was delicious.

The prices have risen yet their quality has slumped. Used to be the best bakery on the coast. Now not so much. Avoid the mince pies. Flavourless. Sweet slices are quite small for their price and quality. Was a very disappointing visit overall.

Yummy Kibble rye loaf. I haven't been in a while and was disappointed to see they have switched back to putting their bread in plastic bags instead of paper bags. Maybe I should have made my expectations more clear but please change back to paper ones as the norm not the exception. I purposely went to the bakery today to avoid the extra plastic bags. People pay a premium at bakeries because they want to be more low waste not get the same thing they can get at a supermarket. With the current sustainability movement you need to stay up with the play.
