Corcoran Road Carpark
I go often for a quick walk up to Ruapane on Pirongia. Stunning overlook view at the chopper pad. The lot is gravel and includes a nearby long-drop. Never had a problem leaving my car there though I only leave one there for a 3-4 hours at a time.

If you enjoy a nice 30+ mins drive to a simple location for a picnic, this could be a choice as there is a bench with a view just inside the trail from this carpark. Most people start their hike up the mountain from here but we didn't explore this option for ourselves as we had young kids with us.

We done the 1hr walk. 400 steps then it gets no easier, but a great view. Good for getting the Xmas kilos off and showing our great country off to the world,
