OENZ- Outdoor Education New Zealand

Over the last couple of weekends I've done two courses with OENZ - Avalanche Awareness, and Intermediate Snow Skills, with the latter course being tailored to our specific requirements. My fellow Christchurch Tramping Club members and I have gained a lot of valuable knowledge and skills from these courses, and it's made us hungry to get out and do more in the mountains in winter. Our instructors were very professional and made sure that we understood what was being taught at all times. It's been a great experience and a huge amount of fun.

Superb course - from the kit lists, the continual contact building up to the course, the content, it's delivery, the accommodation and everything was excellent.Kieran our guide was amazing; extremely knowledgeable, helpful, patient, friendly and always happy to answer our numerous questions. His passion for the outdoors really made the course experience what it was. Sitting in the lodge after being on the mountain, having had a delicious meal home cooked there and having a beer asking Kieran to tell us stories was just unreal. The experiences on the mountain ridges were some of the best of my life - my face hurt from smiling (and the cold!).Fully recommended and will be doing further courses in the future with OENZ

Had an amazing trip with OENZ in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park. We joined the 4 day consolidation course which was great to help refresh our existing skills and learn lots more. The course was flexed to suit our skills which allowed us to improve faster and tackle multi-pitch climbing safely. Loved the course and have my eye on the OENZ trad course in the future!

Cant rate this course enough, I had a great time on the four day alpine/avalanche course. I learnt so much, exactly what I needed to go out and enjoy the backcountry confidently and had fun doing it. Alan is very professional, knowledgeable and created a fun, interactive and open environment for learning, I'm very grateful I now have the skills to do entry level mountaineering! Thank you : )

OENZ was amazing at making a custom course aimed at exactly what our club wanted. Not only that, but I was amazed at how much we were able to achieve in such a short time and at such a good price! Their staff were extremely helpful in coordinating everything we needed to get a grant from Massey University Students Association and were very quick at responding to any emails. The instructors Alan and Nate were awesome to spend 4 days with up in the mountains. They were very professional but still clicked with the group and joked around with us. Everyone in our group commented on how helpful and supportive Alan and Nate were up on the cliffs, they did a great job motivating us and building our confidence up on safe climb technique. We were able to go over proper belay technique, multi-pitch sport & trad climbing, various anchor systems and even some rescue methods to aid in sticky situations. I couldn't recommend going to these guys any more, seriously the best bang for your buck and the most enjoyable experience we could have asked for. Thanks Alan and Nate!

Great time on the 5 day rock climbing course. Local knowledge from Alan was great sharing all his secret spots that most people never get to see whilst having an awesome time at some newly developing crags.

OENZ really put on an outstanding course! Learnt so much about techniques for self arresting and using crampons! Our guide Alan was a guru of knowledge, and invited questions (which for me is a must). The course gave me everything I needed to know about feeling confident in the snow. Highly recommend using OENZ, and know I'll be booking a course very soon!
