Really disappointing. Would not recommend except maybe going there for a coffee in the back courtyard (the interior is really dark). Food was poor and not as described. Avocado on toast with feta turned out to be a sort of paste of avocado smeared thinly on the toast, then lots of vinegary zucchini, salad greens and a couple of halved cherry tomatoes piled on top. Four very small pieces of sheep feta (which is cheaper and less tasty than the better goat feta). So... tastes all blurred because of the vinegary dressing, definitely couldn't distinguish the avocado. Advised the waiter why dish not eaten; no apologies or redress. And then... dessert... a cheesecake with ginger crumble"- the crumble turned out to be chunks of caramelised ginger (some rock hard - watch out for your teeth) coated lightly with icing sugar I think. Altogether really disappointing; neither of us would go back. Only good part was the courtyard which was lovely on a sunny day."

We visited this restaurant for lunch on Saturday, we were walk in customers looking for a simple lunch so we did not have high expectations. Just after a simple lunch.The lady who seated us was really great, offered us menus and water etc, got us drinks and everything was going great. We ordered our food, avo on toast x 2, salmon salad, gnocchi and beef. There was no trouble with putting our order through and we were told we were lucky enough to have the last gnocchi. Yum!There was a change in shift with the wait staff and we had been waiting 40 mins for our food so we asked how far our food would be. The new waitress started to go off at us about how the head chef is away at a wedding and we should have not been ordering the hot food since she thinks the current chef will not be able to cook the hot food… this was the first we were advised about this after waiting 40 mins for our food.This waitress continued to go into the kitchen and talk about how our table guests in a bad way to the chefs and kitchen staff.Again we were informed that the head chef was away at a wedding and we should have ordered cold food. Of course we would have all ordered cold food if we had been informed of this before ordering. Not to mention the conversation prior about the gnocchi and how we had the last one?? They could have simply said there was no hot food on the menu today.An extra star for the food being good even tho we had a terrible experience with the waitress. I feel for for her kitchen crew who have to put up with her.Re consider before dining here!

Went here for dessert and cocktails last night. The crème brulee was perfect and the 3 cheese option was mostly good, only critique was that it should have had a soft cheese with all 3 cheeses the same texture. Cocktails were a little hit and miss the espresso martini and floradora slightly missed the mark. Great service and Nice courtyard.

Lovely wine bar, with a great ever changing selection of New Zealand wines. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The small plates were delicious. We sat inside and enjoyed the ambiance. They also have a beautiful patio in the back.

First time in, it’s a very lovely space. The wine list was great and my friend and I chose the $55 per person let the chef choose. We were asked about dietary and what we really liked and we said seafood. The food was delicious, we had a Spanish tortilla, the sourdough, prawns with garlic bread, crab croquettes, mozzarella and figs and a side of salad and potatoes. It was a lot of food and my only gripe was two types of bread and two types of potatoes was too much. We were so full! We didn’t have room for dessert. Wine wise we had the Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir, amazing! I bought a bottle Pinot noir which is fantastic.

Not the NZ PM but really good! Go.Great food through every course. Maybe too much bread or we could have just fluked the starters that had bread, brioche and crackers. The owners run the place and they know what they are doing. Thanks for looking after us and making our trip to Nelson special

An interesting place to eat. Select what you want to eat and each plate comes out tapas style and size as it is cooked. The service was exceptional.. friendly and attentive. Good wine list to choose from. Lovely sheltered courtyard out the back. My only gripe was the grilled broccoli and miso sauce dish which was far too salty for me. The pork belly, gnocchi, green vegetables were stunning. Its a very busy place which is testament to the quality of the food. Its not cheap but excellence never is

Over promised and under delivered.Expected something special and was left wanting. Expensive for what it was.5/5 for speed of service5/5 for atmosphere5/5 for staff friendliness2/5 for menu, underwhelming1/5 for bang for buckOverall wouldn’t rate it and wouldn’t go back.We are local and eat out a lot and this was not a menu of the class we expected. Far better dining experiences elsewhere in Nelson.

Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of Arden. Friendly greeting check, look of restaurant check, walk through to courtyard...wait a minute...huge check ;) Ambience, decor, efficiency, cocktail list and menu more huge checks, food and drinks excellent in all respects. Kudos to Arden, Nelson's very own laneway restaurant to be reckoned with
