I found counsellors at Shakti worked selflessly to help people in need.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU CONSIDER...!!!!!Primarily, we chose to go to Shakti home safety because of the abusive relationship my parents were in before they separated and my mum became a single mum and had to look out for 4 children on her own, therefore the police suggested this place for us.The first red flag was when the two Indian women who were responsible for picking us up and dropping us to Shakti were 40-45 minutes late. We were mildly annoyed and concerned although we didn't think too much of it. Later wards they arrived after more than half an hour and they were in an absolute rush, they didn't even greet us or apologize for the inconvenience !!We ignored this too, although the second red flag was when how cramped the car was. We had to really really squeeze all of our stuff we needed in the car. We felt so squashed that my mum had to HOLD my nearly 2 year old brother for the whole drive, because they didn't even bother providing us with a child safety seat for my little brother even though my mum called them earlier and informed them that our one was broken and they promised to bring one because it wasn't safe and also because it would be illegal without one. They didn't bring one. This was very distressing and unsafe. Anyway, my little brother was wriggling the entire time and was making it really hard for my mum.Eventually when we arrived to Shakti home safety, we were absolutely in shock before we even entered the place. Almost immediately, there was an revolting and horrendous smell that surrounded the place. It smelled as if there were rotting, dead animals all around the place. Not to mention, that the service and support was so incredibly horrible and unorganised. It was me, my 2 sisters, mum, and my 1 and a half year old little brother. We had to stand in a corner for atleast 15-20 minutes just waiting for customer support and my mum was exhausted having to carry my little brother because the floor was too dirty for him to even stand on!. What makes it worse is we were the only customers" there too. And they still made us wait for ages before someone FINALLY came to supervise us and show us around. The nauseating smell still didn't go away and when one woman showed us one of the rooms

want to know where to make a complaint!!!reached for help during Christmas last year, been passed many people then no more response. Not until been referred by other organizations then they contacted me, still passed many people (i don’t feel they are professional worker for what their questions)then a case worker who’s from my native country arranged a time to meet me, but she copied my passport and my case evidence, I wasn’t comfortable to do that but I followed, then I still kept feeling something wrong, I don’t think she is eligible to save my private information, the services I received from ACC therapist, Court safety program and social worker never asked that and they will always ask permission and let me know that you always have the control and never make me feel uncomfortable for privacy. The Chinese case worker kept asking for my privacy and she said that can show she spent time with me and I can refuse to provide my information, but she said she can’t delete my privacy, so if i don’t have to provide my information then she doesn’t have to keep my info, but she refused, im not sure Shakti does require her to do that or it’s her personal act. I don’t feel safe u keep my information ok? not u told me u will keep my information confidential, I don’t trust! But after i saw the poor reviews, I feel the general organization definitely has something wrong. So disappointed and angry!

Disappointing. Needed help from them shortly after taking my newborn baby & escaping an abusive long term relationship. Referred to Shakti by one of the police officers who truly worried for us. The person at Shakti said they couldn't help as everyone was busy in training and that I would have to figure out a way myself. It's a few years later and my child and I are thriving, I sure as the sun shines found my strength but every time someone says a vulnerable Indian woman should contact Shakti, I tell them no and to get in touch with Māori & Pasifika organizations because they actually care about all people, and that Shakti will only let them down when they need them the most. Indian woman are not a priority for them and people cannot assume we are going to get their help just because they gave themselves the name Shakti.
