Lake Tekapo walkway
Would take close to 6 hours to get up and down the mt john observatory. Many steep slopes. Not recommended to people with knee or leg problem

Lake Tekapo walkway
Great hiking tour to the top of Mount Johns. If you do the loop clockwise you get a steady climb through the forest in the beginning with a great view from the mountaintop over the surrounding area. After that the path declines north from where you have a great view over the lake and the mountains behind that. From there the trail turns back towards the parking lot and follows the shoreline.

Went for a ride around and was a very smooth trail mostly gravel good for kids ebikes walking and more

Lake Tekapo walkway
Wonderful view when the weather is nice. Take warm clothes as it is usually very windy up the hill. It's also quite steep so you should have an average stamina. I would highly recommend the walk.

Spectacular views, particularly if you take the longer way up which loops around the East of Mt. John (takes 2 hours, eventually coming up the North side), vs. the 1 hour option up the South side. The longer route is very exposed so cover up!

Lake Tekapo walkway
Fairly easy walk from Tekapo Springs along the lake's edge then up the less steep side. From the amount of people I passed, it seems most ascend from the steeper side up Mt John. There is a decent track all the way, did not encounter any muddy places. Spectacular views all the way up, less so on the way down as it is a forest track.

An absolutely beautiful walkway. Easy to access and the views are just priceless. Suitable walking for beginners / casual walkers. Get to this on a nice day you wont't be disappointed.
