Freedom camping spot- A fair alternative to overpriced Opunake Beach Holiday Park.This site was all over the map with a mix of pros and cons.Pros- There was a fantastic slide and friendly bunch of ducks. The view of the lake is stunning and it was quiet.Cons- The toilet was basic, it didn't have light, so bring a torch for the early morning twinkle.The wildest part of this site was the toilet seat disappeared overnight and was floating in the lake in the morning.

Nice to catchup with this area, and see that work is being done to maintain the shrubs and trees. There are some good healthy gorse bushes, which need attention but I'm sure that will happen. The lake was always a popular choice for our children to swim in when we were here for our 2 weeks holiday. Now our grandchildren come up and bring their friends. The lake walk has always been a favourite walk, and will continue to be so.

Very nice 30 minute walk around lake. Lovely mountain views. Lots of birds.

This is a wonderful place for a nice walk. Great tracks, fantastic scenery and a fabulous variety of bird life. Our 8 year old daughter found the walk really good. There is a nice little playground. There is also some nice seating dotted around the lake.
