Copthorne Hotel Wellington Oriental Bay

Serviceable hotel with a great view of the harbor, nice large modern bedrooms with a balcony. Service was fine - professional and helpful. The location was within walking distance of restaurants and the harbor, as well as minutes (by car) of the ferry terminal, which I highly recommend (amazing 4 hour ride!) despite the trickiness of the rental cars (not allowed on the ferry). The surroundings/view from the hotel was beautiful!

Unfortunately, this hotel left a damper on a great trip to Wellington.No security, lifts out of order, no room service operational, unable to contact reception/duty manager when needed, dirty and dated, dusty rooms I could write a note in and to top it all off the attitude of the staff members that all of this was ok.The worst for us being that we came back after the theatre and wanted some room service but after 40 minutes of ringing room service, then reception and finally duty manager with no answer had to go downstairs to find a human. We then got cold average food delivered which was charged even though it was not room service when I had to leave the room for service.They are understaffed and poorly managed.

Stayed for one night, gift from a friend as it was my birthday.It was lovely and comfortable, very clean, lovely restaurant and very friendly and helpful staff.Would highly recommend.

A little dated/tired looking and were quite stingy with the bathroom products. Old Cigarette butts left on our balcony. Great location and friendly staff at front desk. Good breakfast offered, room cleaners were brilliant and nice touch to have free access to the pool and gym complex across the road.

Great location and nice rooms.The one of downsides was that we had to catch one lift to the 7th floor and then walk through bar/restaurant area to catch another lift to the 8th floor, you don't feel comfortable walking through the nice part of the hotel when you have just travelled and don't look your best, also you do have to pay for parking and it is a bit tricky to get into.

Hotel staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. The building itself is in a bit of flux as it’s being renovated but views are top rate. Definitely upgrade to a harbor view room. It is 4 star hotel but without gym, pool or spa. (learning star system may be different in the US vs NZ).

This place is a dump, rooms are very dated bathroom is a disgrace. We paid $400 for a sea view which we got but didnt want to spend anytime in the room due to the dated nature & horrible bathroom. We were told that the restaurant was closed so we dined across the road, bought back a piece of cheese cake to eat in the bar over a red wine, but was refused service as their restaurant was available for room service, go figure! Surrounding area is a dump, stay down the other end of town. This is a 2 star maximum with 5 star prices.

I was there over the long weekend (Queen's Birthday). When I booked I informed the staff it was a special occasion (anniversary) and to make it special. They asked me to spell my wife's name and they said they will prepare the room for the special occasion. When we arrived, we were told the elevator is out of order and does not go up to the 8th floor. I had to stop at the 7th floor and walk across to the other side past the restaurant then up the stair then to the other side. The reception saw the bags and the baby in the pram and did not offer to send someone to help us with the bags or the baby's pram. I had to do a few trips to get everything into the room on my own.The room was very basic and dated. I had a small plate on the desk with 2 pieces of chocolate. That was their preparation for the anniversary!Some other issues:-No tissue box in the room nor water in mini bar-TV did not work (not a smart tv), I told the reception about the tv and she just said probably just the battery" and did not offer to send someone to check it out (expected me to change the batteries maybe).The remote was broken on the corner-the bed was supposed to be extra large but it is a queen at most-the bathroom had a fan that did not work so the bathroom smelled and was all foggy after a shower. when I told staff about that they told me the fan does not work from a switch on the wall and they do not know how/when it works.-The bathroom door does not lock.-The gym was outside the hotel

We checked in and checked out straight away. We were not told when we booked that the lifts are not working and needed to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to level 10.This place needs an urgent review of its 4 star status. Parking out back is a mess and feels like you are checking into jail. Rubbish + drink cans on the ground are very unsightly and unwelcoming. The dining area has loose ripped carpet that is not even stuck down. Furniture is all marked and filthy. Hall ways to rooms feel musty and dark with terrible condition carpet and wallpaper. Food trays lingering outside rooms. In the room the furniture was all marked and again filthy. Lovely view was about all it had going for it. I would score this hotel a 2 star rating. EXTREMELY DATED AND IN NEED OF URGENT CLEANING AND UPDATING. PRICE NEEDS TO REFLECT ALL COMMENTS ABOVE.
