Lower Nihotupu Dam
Lower Nihoputu Dam is worth the drive alone, very interesting place to visit. Take the kids here it's a great learning experience to visually see our water storage reservoirs. If you want to make a day of it, head up the road to cornwallis beach and have a picnic or similar.

Very dangerous descent going westbound on a racing bike. Beware and go at your own risk! Exciting, thrilling, and borderline dangerous :-)

Definitely worth a stop if driving past! There's no walk or anything here, just a place to look.

The place is locked up all the time so you can’t get to go into the middle of the space, it seems safe enough as there are camera’s in place there. Biggest gripe was the bugs that eat you alive so bug spray is highly recommended!

Never thought of placing a review for a dam before but this is a good place to stop and get out the camera. There's parking below the dam and a stroll along the stream is worth the effort and to view the spillway there's parking on the Laingholm side of the dam though the area is restricted and you can only observe the scenery from the car park. There is a track that joins the reservoir inlet and exhibition drive (pipeline track) but the link down to the dam is closed due to the rāhui which has been placed in the Waitakere Ranges in a bid to stop the spread of the dieback disease threatening the kauri.
