Alfresco Eatery and Historic Villas

Finally a good experience!My experience with Alfresco eatery did not start well. Mr Google said it was open for lunch, so I drove 30 km from Grey Valley to have a decent lunch. “We don’t serve lunch,” I was told.But I was staying overnight at Reefton so I came back in the evening for dinner, and a colleague too joined me. We had vegetarian pizza, which was delicious- accompanied by fries- which were good but perhaps un-needed.

Really enjoyed our stay. Close to town to walk. Very pet friendly amazing villa and great people . Can't wait to stay again

Nice host, comfy room. Could do with a bit of modernizing however.

We live in Taupo and my dad lives in Reefton. I phoned Alfresco to ask them if they cook meals for delivery, and they said yes! Paula was so kind and extremely helpful. I asked if she would mind delivering fish and chips to my dad, as it’s his 75th birthday today and he is by himself! It was no problem at all! I called my dad and he thoroughly enjoyed his meal...so thank you so much Paula that made his day! Highly recommend this place! Amanda, Willie and Zachary.

We stayed in the old house at rear of cafe. Very clean. Tons of character. Floors not level (its old) which added to character. Perfect location and the beers and pizza were brilliant. Great value, would stay again.

Nice old house with comfortable room! Host was very nice and unjudgemental about our dirty gear and bikes! Would stay again!

Me and my friend spent a Sunday in Reefton staying at the Alfresco Eatery and Historic Villas. We arrived around 3pm and wanted to visit the Gin Distillery down the road. We met Paula who was outstanding and hugely hospitable and friendly! We got into our accomodation which was perfect for us and looked forward to starting the fire upon our return. Once we got back we each had a double bedroom at a really great price. We ordered Pizza and Chips from Paula later in the evening and who kindly dropped it round for us it was great. Paula was amazing and I can't recommend highly enough staying here for a quick one or two night stop over. The guest book was so interesting 18 years old!!!!!! In this post covid world business's such as these should be supported and the quiet little town of Reefton itself. I will be back for sure and it's great to experience. Value for money for sure.

We weren’t staying in one of the historic villas, but Infact a dingy, mouldy old house that either needs significant repairs and upgrading, or A bulldozer through it.The bathroom:Shower door is broken, Lino is peeling from the floor and there are spiders EVERYWHERE! You walk around in here and your feet will turn black from all the dust.The kitchen:Although the facilities were good I wouldn’t use the pots and pans that have been in those cupboards. Plenty of space but also plenty of dust, spiders and musty smells.The bedrooms:There are a total of 3 bedrooms in the house. The bed I slept in was comfortable but the sheets and pillows were rather stinky and there was strange fluffy stuff everywhere.Overall the place is a massive disappointment for how much you are paying. No matter where you stay, no matter the price you are paying should you be forced to sit on the doorstep because the musty smell in the lounge and dining room is unbearable. There are also 1990’s TVs in every room which is extremely outdated and gives it a kind of creepy feel. I also found an old pair of glasses on the dining table. Really needs a huge clean out.One other thing is that the ‘cottage’ is right on the road edge so you have people showing up at the door at all hours wanting to order food, even though the restaurant is next door which is incredibly frustrating. Please put a sign on the fence or something to direct people to the restaurant.Now some positives-yay!The owner lady is very friendly and easy to talk to and the food at the restaurant is great and comes out fast.
