The location and the view was amazing. The service was great. Room was a bit tiny and bathroom slightly tiny.Recommend - get the breakfast and bed package which gives you 10% off because there’s no real other options for breakfast unless you plan to skip a meal.Breakfast was ok but not huge variety. We stayed 2 nights and both days breakfast on offer was the same. The coffee machine was a bit average. For dinner we did just one night buffet. Price is definitely a bit pricey for value but again no real other options unless you travel out of town. I found variety was better for dinner compared to breakfast. Overall a good stay with amazing views. We always got the window seats when we went to the restaurant.

With the very limited choice for acommodation in Mount Cook, this hotel came out as “luxury-feel” hotel in the area but it was disappointed. The room is small and old. Definitely overpriced! Service is extremely poor, especially at the only restaurant & bar. The only plus point for this hotel is their digital marketing team, good job on the website and photos.

We stayed one night on March 11, 2023. The Hermitage exceeded our expectations in many ways. If you are after a magical place to stay, this should not let you down.10/10While we were in a line waiting to be checked in, an Indian lady staff chatted with us for around 5-10 minutes just to keep us accompanied, what a welcoming gesture and heart warming thing to have after we had our exhausting hike through the valley track. Our room was just a standard king, which is on the 1st floor (level 2) of the older building. The view is certainly superb for us, and out of our surprise the room was definitely also very spacious and clean, not like many other reviewers had said otherwise. I think they were comparing this hotel to other luxury boutique hotels, but this hotel is not about luxury nor personalized services, it’s about the view and the ability to appreciate the sacred mountains of Aorangi/Mt Cook to the Māori people and Kiwis. We had the buffet breakfast at the hotel as well, the food selection was superb too. Starting a day with the food and the blue sky, snow covered mountains was really magical. The only thing we hope can improve is the price :) Before the pandemic we could get a premium room for a similar price as we paid for our standard room this time around. The Hermitage exceeded our expectations in many ways. If you are after a magical place to stay in this area, this hotel should not let you down. Thanks Hermitage for giving us a magical and memorable stay.

Highly recommended!July 2020 was my first stay with group of friends.June 15 2023:Second stay with my sister. It was short but sweet stay. Room was warm, clean and good for 2 persons. They accommodated my request.Location and view was great. Accesible to the walks.Food was good. They have Cafe til 4pm and they have buffet breakfast and dinner.Staff are all very friendly, professional and courteous. They have parking. They are also renovating the back part building of the hotel. And that's promising.

The Hotel and it's Motels are pretty nice and do have the great views most reviews mention. Staff have also all been helpful and friendly. The food is the main problem here: with a virtual monopoly, the quality is so-so and definitely overpriced. The dining area seating also seems to have a lot of food stains that I wouldn't normally care about until required to pay $65 a person to eat there. So buy groceries before driving up!

Beautiful location and hotel! It includes a fabulous and huge buffet breakfast, and I highly recommend making reservations for dinner as well. It was a great buffet with really good food.It is up near Mt. Cook, and there isn't anything else up there besides the hotel. They also have tours, a theater, and a planetarium. We had a fabulous stay; I would highly recommend a stay here!

There are limited options for staying in Mt. Cook Village. The Hermitage was not our first choice, but it worked out well. First - our check in was wonderful. The gentleman who checked us in was so friendly and had great recommendations for our two night stay. The hotel is enormous, especially for the area, and parking can be tricky. The lounge and dining area offers extraordinary views. The dining is buffet style and the food is decent, but the buffet experience is so contradictory to the remoteness of the area. Make sure to make a reservation if you want to dine here, though I recommend visiting the Old Mountaineer Cafe at least once or twice to have a quieter dining experience. The rooms were adequate, if a bit outdated, with the views of mountains being what you pay for. There are events at the hotel, which we didn't take experience. Like all other locations in Mt. Cook Village, The Hermitage is a great base camp for some extraordinary hikes.

Disappointing stay for the price. The hotel and rooms are very dated and definitely not worth the price.Firstly we waited 2 hours to be checked in, as their check in time is later than usual at 3pm, we got our room around 4pm but the bed type was not as per requested so there was further delay. The staff including the hotel manager did not offer any service recovery. Dining options are limited and average, we had the buffet dinner, and breakfast at the cafe. The pictures are better than the actual hotel offering, not recommended unless you want to stay in Mount Cook.

This hotel is overpriced, the room is old but the view is good depending on which room you booked. Even if you booked the room with no view, it's still not worth it.The water in the shower isn't powerful, it makes it hard to shower with such little amount of water coming out. It's probably because this hotel is near Mount Cook, that everything is expensive. The buffet is overpriced as well, not worth it.I couldn't believe that this hotel was my most expensive purchase for my whole trip. All the other hotels I stayed at were cheaper and better on the quality.
