Tarawera Falls
Easy trail with great places to stop for a swim in the river. A fairly clean drop toilet in the carpark. The falls are angry and beautiful, and we are so lucky that we get to see them.

A long drive in a muddy road (not so bad) but totally worth it. Crystal clear water. And a beautiful waterfall.

Tarawera Falls
Probably one of the most low key spots to exist in the bay of Plenty. Firstly make sure to visit the i-site building in the town center to get a permit which costs 10 dollars, you will need to gain this permit to be able to get to the falls as they are private roads, the roads are mostly gravel and dirty dusty roads so be prepared for a filthy vehicle afterwards, and I don't suggest bringing a flash lowered car either lol. The actual walk is super easy and takes little to no time to get to. Absolutely breath taking the whole experience I would highly suggest thus spot

Such an awesome waterfall that pours out of a cave in the cliff face! You can drive up pretty close if you purchase a permit from the i-SITE in Kawerau ($10)Carry on up past the waterfall up to the top to see where the stream disappears into the ground

Get a permit in Kawerau before you go.A long drive along a logging road -watch out for logging trucks. You don't realise the size of the forest till you drive through it.Park & walk about 20 mins to the fall, suitable for any age, not a difficult walk.Parking good.Well worth it,water so clear, looks like Hamurana springs water.Photographers paradise !There is also a 2 hour walk which I haven't done yet.

Absolutely stunning walk, and an incredible waterfall! Definitely well worth the drive and cost of the permit ($10).There is a longer walk to Tarawera Outlet from there that will take you past some gorgeous views.

Awesome waterfalls with a twist. You have to get a permit to visit and it's a fair drive on gravel logging roads but it's well worth it. 20 minute walk from the car park up to the falls which is pretty easy and spectacular along the beautifuly clear river - I've done it with a buggy too so no excuse not to bring the little ones. How spectacular the falls are largely depends on how much rain there has been lately, I've visited when only the lower waterfall was working but the last visit it was 'pumping'. You can walk up the hill from the falls to the cascade where there's smaller falls you can get closer to and also marvel at the volume of water that just dissappears into the ground. If you have more time & someone to pick you up you can walk all the way to the Tarawera lake outlet.

Tarawera Falls
One of the best waterfalls in New Zealand to visit. The river is so clear and beautiful. Large ponga and massive boulders along the walking track. The waterfall is so impressive!!
