Semola Restaurant & Bar
Our first time dining at Semola was a pleasant experience. We arrived a early to have a drink in the whiskey bar off to the side of the main dining area.. It was a quiet and intimate setting to enjoy a couple of negronis and chat before dinner. We were seated, given menus and a run down of the food, great to see local ingredients used and stated on the menu. We had fresh Foccacia, veal Carparcio, heirloom tomato salad, crispy squid with lemon white beans, Gnocchi with braised lamb and crisp sage. It was all well presented and seasoned very well. Great to have a new restaurant in Orewa that's doing great food with a nice atmosphere, great drinks and professional service.. can't wait to go back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner last night at Semola. The food was crazy good, loved the decor, and the staff were all very nice and attentive. It gets booked out quickly, so get in early....also, try the baked brie - you won't regret it!!

We have been looking forward to trying out the local gem. We had a lovely evening, food and service were superb.The restaurant was very busy, we sat in view of the chefs doing their thing and they were slick and efficient. The Gnocchi was out the gate.Great to see this level of restaurant available in Orewa.Will definitely be back.

Six of us dining for the first time here. It's a new restaurant with young, inexperienced staff who are trying really hard and are very pleasant. So my comments are for the owners:Please add a potato dish and greens to the menu if you are going to serve dry aged steaks. There are no appropriate sides for this dish. Polenta doesn't go with steak!Please train your staff to ask how a customer likes their steak cooked and to check on their allocated tables for water refills and if anything else is required. These are fine dining prices and the service needs to match.Do not send out an unset tiramisu from the kitchen because you ran out of the ones you made earlier. It was like trying to eat soup! Our server told us that's why it was different to the others we ordered.The banquette seating is not big enough for six adults to sit and eat comfortably. We were very squashed and there was no room on the table for our dishes.The gnocchi is the stand out dish (absolutely delicious) but needs to be a larger portion for $38 (see photo).On the positive side, the interior decor is very nicely done and the staff have a great attitude. I think I would go back in 6 months and see if the service has bedded in. It's a welcome addition to the Orewa dining scene, it just needs some adjustments.

Food was unreal, after 5 years in New Zealand this may be one of the best meals I've had. I'd consider this a special treat $$$ kind of place, though I felt the prices were fair (for NZ and apocalyptic recession aside), portions were perfect, wine list was fab. The Gnocchi was a stand out, steak was cooked perfectly, and the Chicken liver parfait was yum! Every dish we had was executed perfectly, seems like a menu you could order anything from and the chef is gonna make it a banger. Service was great, another rarity these days. Mains took a little longer to come out than we would have liked but with food that good, we forgot about that detail after the first bite. Beautifully done décor as well, great ambiance. Will be back!

Had to try Semola after friends said it was the place to try.We were initially seated at a table with high chairs which wouldn't be a problem if they were the right height for the table. So when you book ask to be seated at a lower table. Once we were moved things improved. Service was variable. Initially very good, but then they sort of forgot us once we were eating our mains. However the food is delicious, and while on the expensive side, was enjoyable. On a busy night it is very noisy, so maybe not the place to go for a quiet romantic dinner. They do need to make the menu easier to read. We will go back in a few months time again to see if the little things have improved. Well worth a visit.

We went here for our first wedding anniversary, seven years together. Amazing customer service, delicious food. Best Tiramisu ever. Loved the steak and the beetroot ravioli. We'll definitely be back.

Loving Orewa’s new Semola! Excellent Italian inspired food and other options. Loved the chicken patē & fish main! My husband loved his lamb. The chefs do and excellent job! The ambience is amazing and it’s great to be able to relax in the whiskey bar. Do book this stylish restaurant is humming.

We had been waiting for something new in Orewa and couldn’t wait to try this place once it opened.Overall, every meal was very tasty. The service was good, although you could tell a number of the staff were new and the restaurant itself was new, so maybe a few kinks to iron out. But didn’t bother us at all.Will be back again for sure!

Food was pleasant enough well presented , but quite expensive. Service was fine , plenty of staff, quite pleasant. Table was cleared as required. I had the fish which one piece was a bit dry, the rest was fine ,very tasty. I unfortunately had a small bone in the fish. when told to our table attendant she had the Manager come to us apologised and gave us a complementary desert which was much appreciated. Would I go back again , yes but because of the prices , for a special occasion only. However a pleasant time and great décor.
