Retaruke Country Estate

Three couples were exceptionally lucky to have the opportunity to experience an amazing stay at Retaruke Country Estate hosted by the wonderful team of Carolyn, Glenn & Sam. From start to finish everything was superb - accommodation, scenery, food, activities and especially the hospitality. Thank you guys for giving us a great three night stay which will long be remembered and talked about. An absolute highlight in all the travels we have been lucky enough to have done.

Glenn and Carolyn were the perfect hosts. From the minute we arrived we felt comfortable and at ease. Throughout the stay they were welcoming, hospitable and provided engrossing conversations. The accommodation was exceptional and with their combined knowledge of the property, surroundings and all that's NZ native, Glenn and Carolyn made the experience that much more enjoyable. Activities were designed to suit our (the guests) abilities and confidence levels which made them fun and exciting. Thank you Glenn and Carolyn. Our stay was everything we expected and more. Carolyn and Glenn are fabulous hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of activities as well as time by the fire with a book. Watching millions of stars from the hot tub. The food was delicious, so was the wine. But the company topped it. We arrived like guests and left like friends.

Experience of a lifetime!!! Beautiful lodge set in amongst gorgeous countryside with the most amazing hosts you could ever imagine. Thank you for everything Glenn and Carolyn. Worth every cent and more!!!

Absolutely fabulous weekend, Carolyn & Glenn were fantastic hosts. The estate is 5*, meals were superb and the activities were great, horse trekking, clay shooting, walks in the bush. This is such a wonderful retreat and I hope to rebook within the coming months. So worth it!!!!

My son and I have been for deer meat hunt at Retaruke the second time now and have already made another two bookings for next year. Carolyn and Glenn are very nice hosts and it's just such an outstanding place in the world(!) for free range deer hunting (bush hunt as well as long range shooting) combined with an amazing accommodation and excellent hospitality. We enjoy very much the hunting with Glenn, typically in the early morning and in the evening hours. He is certainly a very knowledgeable hunter and guide and helped us a lot with all the meat / food processing (for 9 deer). Really great and very much appreciated, Glenn! But it's not only the hunting we do enjoy so much there, it's also the host's very warm and welcoming environment they have. Carolyn's is a fantastic chef! Apart from snacks and fruits / drinks all day long available, after the morning hunt we've got a decent warm breakfast, few hours later a nice lunch and then again after the evening hunt a perfectly cooked dinner. Thank you very much again and looking forward seeing you very soon!

We had a fantastic stay at Retaruke Country Estate. We enjoyed every moment of it – the lodge and the surroundings are majestic, the food is delicious, the experiences are exceptional, and Carolyn and Glenn are the best hosts ever! My husband and I recently stayed at Retaruke Country Estate to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We were completely spoilt during our stay - enjoying hunting, clay bird shooting, horse riding, a BBQ by the stream, and a couple of trips around the property to soak up some amazing views. The food was absolutely delicious and soaking in the hot tub in the evenings, under the stars, was a lovely way to wind down from the days adventures. Glenn and Carolyn were the best hosts, with plenty of great conversations had and they shared a wealth of knowledge around the history of the property. It was a memorable stay and we look forward to returning hopefully next year!

A couple of weeks ago we were fortunate to have spent the weekend at Retaruke Country Estate. What an incredible location, amazing views and the best hosts one could ask for. Glenn and Carolyn - you guys rock! We felt welcomed and comfortable on arrival and after unpacking sat back and took in the views. The activities were fantastic, horse riding being a favourite! We all thoroughly enjoyed Carolyn's cooking - absolutely delicious! Even learnt a few new dishes. Would highly recommend anyone who is looking for something exclusive, peaceful and tranquil, with a little bit of an adventure thrown in, then this is the place to go!
