Charles is amazing. Don't bother looking at his cocktail list, just tell him the mood you're in, or the kind of flavours you like and he will come up with the perfect cocktail for you. Any time I'm out in Christchurch, I try to finish the night at the Poplar Social Club.

What a disappointment. Had been September last year and had a fabulous time. Knowledgeable barman who was thoroughly entertaining.This time half the ingredients were missing from the menu cocktail list and the barman could not make a classic Barnums that we asked for. He tried. But a wide miss. Considering he was pushing an IPA it was obvious he was not a cocktail advocate. Such a shame.We moved on to Pink Lady and we were delighted. A classic Aviation. Yes

Max was an incredible bartender both for making excellent drinks and for a fun chat. Definitely a place to go if you're looking for craft cocktails.They have WiFi available and tasty food to order including pizzas. Fun atmosphere as well

Talented staff, they made us feel right at home and one was an expert cocktail artist due to compete on an international level. The atmosphere is casual but classy with a tip of the hat to the vintage vibe. A great place for Friday night drinks and a nibble but not appropriate for clubbing or dancing. The food is delicious, appropriate to the setting and we'll executed. Highly recommend the pork belly for a light meal but I had no complaints about any of our selections. Impressive range of beverages; numerous craft beers, well chosen wines and a small amount of top shelf ticklers. I would call the poplar social club a hidden gem. A great representation of the evolving bar and food scene in Christchurch. Booths are comfortable and add an element of privacy. If I had to knit pick, they could work on the lighting and I can't wait until there are more parking spaces available nearby. Will definitely be returning. Cool spot!

The best cocktails I’ve ever had, reasonably priced and a great atmosphere. Not sure what the bartender’s name was but he was great! We had a fantastic night!
