The Solo Blacksmith

We had such a great day making knives under Solo’s expert tutelage. Clear instructions and plenty of help made the course super accessible for complete beginners - we could not be happier with our knives!Cannot recommend this course enough, it makes for an incredible gift, and a fun day spent learning something new.

I did frypan making with Solo, so much fun. Solo was incredibly helpful, skilful and knowledgeable. And my fry pan is seriously amazing.

The knife making g course is fantastic, a full day of fun and an amazing experience. Solomon is a great teacher, very patient and knowledgeable. The small class size means you get a lot of one on one help, but are also given freedom to work at your own pace.I chose Solomon mainly because I knew I'd be doing actual forging, not just cuttt6ashape out of a blank pice of steel.My knife is something I will treasure dearly.

Learning to make a knife with Solo was a truly wonderful and unique experience.I have taken various craft classes in the past but found myself disappointed with the simplified cookie cutter nature of them. This was not the case with Solo’s class. Under his expert tutelage, we were guided through each step - from forging our own blades from scratch to finishing it off with a custom wooden handle.The end result was a knife I’m proud of and will treasure for a long time.I absolutely recommend his classes - whether for yourself or as a gift - it’s an experience you won’t forget.Thank you again for an amazing day!

10/10 Had an awesome day with Solomon, great teacher who went through everything step by step starting with forging a flat blade from a cylinder bit of metal! Lunch provided was also a great highlight.

100% would recommend the knife making experience. Solo is a fantastic teacher and patiently guided us to making our first blades ever! From forging to handle crafting it was an absolute blast. Can’t wait to attempt an axe head next.

I am now the proud owner of two Solo Blacksmith knives; one that I bought from him, and one for wood carving that I had the pleasure of making in one of his classes (pictured). The class I attended was incredibly engaging - being a blacksmith for a day was such a fulfilling experience that I would recommend it to literally everyone I know.We started our knives from scratch, meaning we created the actual blades ourselves, as well as doing some woodworking to make the handles.And everyone says it but it's true! - The lunch really was delicious.Solo is kind and very patient with all his students, making sure we all had a great result and a fun and interesting time. You'll learn how to forge steel into the greatest knife ever...because you made it. Yes, you get total bragging rights for months whenever you bring out 'The Knife', when guests come round. The whole day was chilled, fascinating and rewarding. You don't have to know what you're doing, Solomon adapts his training to suit where you're at. Highly recommended to anyone who is interested in doing something a little different!

I've attended two blacksmithing workshops here and they were both excellent. Solo is a great teacher with a cutting sense of humor.I'm very happy with my fro and carving knife.

Great guy, great place, great tools. Got an amazing spoon carving knife from Solo that's light-years better than anything else I've found in NZ (and probably half the price). Looking forward to a pan making class next. Great find.
