Wow, saying this place is a gem is not enough. I've spent there only one night, but it was magical and I hope I'll be back sooner then later. The Yurt is amazing - the interior is so cozy and warm, we were happy to stay inside as it was raining outside (with chimney it was such a pleasure). In the meantime we could see the spectacular view of the sea and sunset while going outside to the kitchen or bathroom. I can honestly say that it was the best location I've slept in in New Zealand.Ian was the best host, very friendly and caring. His pizza was delicious! If you are thinking about spending time in Ngahere Hou, don't think twice, just book it.Ps. Outside shower is a must do!

We just had the most wonderful stay at Ngahere Hou- post lockdown. It was such a gorgeous spot that feels so far away from it all with great views and all of the amenities that you need. The yurt and the summerhouses have everything that you need and the stay was so comfortable (log fire, outdoor shower and hot tub were all bonuses!!). Amazing breakfast items- yummy fresh bread- with our stay and there are great outdoor options of things to do nearby or just sit back and relax. Ian and Kate were wonderful hosts and we can't wait to come back and visit them again! Thanks for everything :)

Ian was a really welcoming host, great set up with the Yurt and Summer House, a hot wood-fired spa ready and waiting for our tired bods and the most delish brekkie, incl bacon, eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade bread and croissants. A real treat! Highly recommend to other walkers. Thanks from the HB girls!

Host Ian made us very welcome from the outset. We walked from Portage Bay to the accommodation, a gentle 11km walk, opting for the road rather than QCT, purely because we wanted to see firsthand the damage from last year's floods. We loved arriving, part the olive trees to the yurt. Beautiful inside, quirky and relaxing. Ian had the woodfire spa already fired. From there is was just chilling, with a quick swim at high tide.We took advantage of the pizzas that night. The morning brought bird song and fresh bread, jams and croissants.Another beautiful find in the Sounds

Ian was an amicable host and cooked some pretty tasty pizzas(just need to adjust the prices online they say $25 on one page and $30 on another). The hot tub was great, the freshly baked bread and OJ was good too. There’s a lot of friendly Wekas around. The Yurt was definitely a highlight to match the ethereal ambient golden silence and sacred waters of Kenepuru Sound. It had the Nicest smelling long drop I’ve been.

Fascinating place. Very steep and slippery trail down from the ridge. Loved the outdoor shower and breakfast (homemade croissants, sourdough, eggs and bacon provided - cook yourself) and a great host. However quite expensive for the summerhouse given not much privacy from any groups staying in the yurt (breakfast table was 1m from our door). The hot tub didn’t really get hot after 4 hours and swimming in Kenepuru sound only works at very high tide.We hired kayaks and paddled to Portage the next day which was a lovely change, but the directions weren’t that great and with no map, we went 1.2 km past our destination and had to battle back into a strong headwind to get there.

A fabulous stay. Ian was relaxed and welcoming; the accomodation was beautifully and thoughtfully set up. The spa was FABULOUS…. Set among the bushes, topped off by great pizzas and a fresh breakfast delivered. Such a treat after a days hiking. Thanks so much for having us in your slice of paradise
