Mansion House gardens offer a good variety of trees and shaded walks. Cafe offers good food with happy helpful staff. The Mansion could do with a fresh lick of external paint. The Mansion has a varied history and worth a visit on the mail boat.

A very exciting trip, I wish those looking after this building get a bit more interested and caring as I saw some things very antique but less consideration. Very robust building including fantastic and detailed designs, and very smart architectural designs, stunning heating systems (wall low high air circulation and individual fireplaces), the very memories around but unfortunately, could not see the sewage system how was working for that age but seems another genius. Nice and tidy historical garden with gorgeous plants species in the back yard, a cafe is in your right hand with winter open schedule Oct 2023. Toilets are placed behind. Walking tracks are awesome but need to take extra cautious because of weather changes and need to follow signs. Big trouble somewhere is no proper sign or maybe was but disappeared so once getting a way to smelter Copper mine plz take extra care. Generally speaking fantastic experience, uuuuumm don't forget to wear adventure shoes, and take bottled water, and dry food just in case.

Lovely historical house w lots of period furniture, paintings & accessories. It would be nice to have larger print for the descriptions for many people to read at the same time. Also, a few areas are still works in progress...

Nice place in the Gulf . $4.00 for entry to Masion House . Cafe across the way. Was pleasant. And food was ok . Otherwise unless you are hiking it's pretty boring . But over all nice day had . We also did the mail run on the ferry over.

We thought access to the house was included in the package that we bought, but apparently wasn't which we found out when we got to the entrance. Our lunch that was also supposed to be included in the boat trip package was also not added to our ticket which we found out by the first lady, Barbara, loudly telling us we didn't pay for a meal voucher. It was our kid's first boating experience which we kept as a surprise but we all ended up feeling really disappointed and embarrassed seeing that everyone in the area was made aware that we didn't pay for our food. Only after a phone call to the office, it was found that the meal ticket was not added by the staff at the office by mistake and were told we'll eat lunch on the island, which we did but didn't feel good about.

What a shame that we still see and experience things thats never been appreciated . God knows why few have audacity to treat others in such mean and informal way and still expect to get business in future from certain communityMy parents came all the way to experience the nz culture hospitality . We decided to go to Kawau island . Drove for 2 hours and the first encounter at ticket counter , lady i spoke to didnt even look at me . The gentlemen who got served before me was a white man , been greeted with smile and she did explain him the entire route . My turn came and i was shocked!! Forget about greeting she didn’t even look at my face during the whole conversation . I was asked for the voucher number and then ticket was simply slipped over the counter . Then we went to the port where we were expecting the obvious ferry to go to as it has got seating on the roof top . We were discussing things in between mean while IAN the pilot i assume or ferry driver came in and told my wife that we need to board the little one instead of the large one we paid for . And he said if you dont want to go then its okie . There was no apology nothing instead we had been treated as unwanted . We paid just like others we didnt bother a single person then why the hell i and my family had to experience this . Through out the way IAN was quite rude to us and he was continuously giving us the rude gesture . My parents were upset and really didnt enjoy a thing . THANK YOU FOR BEING SUCH HORRIBLE HUMAN AND PROFESSIONAL individual . SHAME ON YOU !!!

Mansion House is run down. The bay has been very affected by recent storms and a cyclone and as such, many tracks were not walkable. Still enjoyed though.
