Coalgate Millenium Walkway

This loop track starts on the Hororata side of the white bridge crossing the Selwyn River on Bridge Street in Coalgate.It is approximately 5km long, and is fairly steep initially. No dogs allowed as it is on farmlands. It takes 2-3 hours.You can walk along the side of the river or hike up on the bluff. Or do a full loop.The track was muddy and slippery. You will need hiking boots.Parts of the walk is along the Bluff which is a very high cliff, so if you happen to fall, you will be dead.It is unsuitable for young children unless supervised, nor hiking down from the Bluff which is another daunting adventure in itself. A very steep hill where you will be using your hands and feet to navigate down a steep hill. Look for white markings on the tree. Definitely not a Sunday troll at the park.The walk along the river part is fine.The best and most spectacular views are along the hilltop where you view the Southern Alps, Mt Hutt is in the foreground, Canterbury Plains and Banks Peninsula.
