Certified Builders Association - NZCB

As a builder from the states, I find that this organization is a joke as I’ve just fired my NZCB here in the Dunedin area. I have found that NZCB has really no credibility to protecting the homeowners.

Driving prices of nz materials.. no thanks. Buckle up!

It is same as Master Builder an association of builders !!!!!so they will and protect their interestsso it is not in favour of the HomeownersAs long you are aware of it -> you are not disappointed

Connor Hamilton Construction Ltd (CHCL) is a member of NZCB and undertook 2 refurbishment projects for us – total spent $570,000CHCL tried to use their own building contract, rejecting an industry contract. Their quotes against consented HCC plans were miles out (Electrician 149% over quote, Plumber 123% over quote, Painter 87% over quote, Roof 40% over quote), had to stop all work to force progress plans to be completed – over-runs cost a fortuneCHCL recommended and sub-contracted Straight Paint Ltd to paint the house and new garage – we paid $27,000+ for internal & external painting. Within 10 months (Feb 2022) there was widespread paint flaking off walls and windowsThe July 2022 Master Painters Report said “…the work … (by Straight Paint) … does not meet an acceptable trade standard, and fails to meet the standard described in AS/NZ2311/2017…”In Aug 2022 Straight Paint & CHCL rejected a joint Building Disputes Tribunal application to resolve all painting issuesCHCL offered $10,000+ in Nov 2022 against an expired independent quote. Independent quotes to repair got to $15,000+ on 31 Jan 2023.NZCB ought to protect their organization, other members’ reputations and protect the public and reconsider Connor Hamilton Construction Ltd membership. CHCL have left us with a $15,000+ repair bill. BewareUpdate Jul 2023: CHCL deployed Badcock Law (Rotorua) on 6 June 2023 to try to force us to accept an expired painting repairs quote ($15,000+) dated 31 Jan and expired 3 Mar 2023. Communication was intimidating, aggressive, threatening and promised a possible cost to us of $50,000. This stopped when we advised we had submitted a complaint to the NZ Law Society.Further update: CHCL have advised they will not accept any invoices for painting repairs and have blocked all email traffic from us, after they received the first invoice on 7 July 2023. CHCL claim they are not liable for any painting repairs - despite being paid in full for the original painting ($27,000+)

Being a member of NZCB has been great for my business & I have enjoyed watching it grow over the last 21 years to a association that cares about making our Qualified Builders better professionals in this evolving market that we work in.over 3000 builds a year with mostly very satisfied customers.

NZCB have no credibility.We lodged a complaint re unethical behaviour about one of their members & two months later still absolutely no progress has been made by Jason Mc Clintock in processing the complaint.Thumbs down NZCB, all you are is a support network for your members.I would give you no stars if it was possible.

Have been using this association for nearly 2 years now and what a dramatic improvement my business has made by making suggested changes advised by them.

Great group working hard to support homeowners and builders. We've worked with them in a professional capacity and have been impressed with their integrity and problem solving.

Just a bunch of people making money by giving false assurances. The only reason why you need them is because HALO insurance can't be obtained otherwise, which is really a money making scam. They are quick at washing their hands off as soon as they are aware of a problem.Sue Carrick is employee of NZCB so no wonder a 4 star rating.
