Waterview Tunnel

Went on the walk this afternoon. Quite enjoyed it, and the Auckland Transport shuttle busses were brilliant. No waiting and a quick trip. Relatively easy access, no queues and plenty of friendly and helpful staff. Overall well worthwhile.

My 78 year old Dad suffered from a tyre puncture this morning, in the pouring rain, just outside the tunnel. He was slightly concerned about changing the tyre as he's currently suffering from a shoulder injury! His luck was in, in that he was assisted within minutes by James, from the Waterview Tunnel Team! James changed the tyre promptly, and was of a HUGE help to my Dad. Dad said that not only was James clearly on to it" doing his job

This tunnel is an excellent improvement to traffic flow. I had expected that it would quickly become as clogged as the rest of the Auckland motorway system but while it is certainly busier now than it was when it opened it still provides much faster access to Sandringham and beyond and provides a useful alternative to the Southern motorway.

Best motorway tunnel in Waterview, would never consider using any other. It makes all other Waterview tunnels look like rubbish. Couple of tips - don't try walking in it, and don't ever try to drive the wrong way. Also be nice to your Mum.

0930 Tuesday morning inside tunnel, car lost all power while in middle lane so immediately put hazard lights on, the traffic immediately slowed down enabling me to get to left lane, no horns blowing or angry drivers around then came to standstill , buy then all traffic behind me were indicating to go around me, could see heavy vehicles holding back traffic, just so impressed with the way everyone acted, then emergency vehicle arrived and pushed my car out of tunnel to safe area then transporter truck was there to transport my car to safe area at Rosebank Rd.The assistance given to me was absolutely first class.Credit to all concerned, Thank you

Engineering magic, and the best route to take if you want to travel from the Auckland airport to the North Shore. Keep to the speed limit, don't cross lanes in the tunnel as there are camera's all the way.
