Really friendly and helpful staff. If you are a fan of the style of food, which I am, then the dine in food is excellent. The lazy Susan makes sharing food easily. The portions are generous.Chan's have a long rectangular dining area. On quieter nights you can choose a table away from other diners. This helps to clearly hear conversations at your table.

Great food but when ordering sweet and sour food would be great to be able to order a smaller meal that came with rice

New to Masterton so went here for the 1st time.Ordered a takeaway meal1x sweet n sour chicken1x special fried rice1 portion of prawn crackers.Paid what I thought was $37..Obviously misheard becausewhen I saw my credit card statement I had to call to clarify my bill of $52.....Unfortunately there's no where to clarify prices on line as fb pics are old & even their takeaway menu (which I picked up at the same time) doesn't have any prices!Apparently prawn crackers that at every other takeaway or Asian food store in NZ cost $2. Cost a whopping $10+ here...My message here is to confirm the price of your meal before you buy because I balked at the price tbh. Yes it was good, tasty food but their prawn crackers are a complete rip off & honestly the price leaves a sour taste in my mouth! What other prices are over inflated here!Disappointed is an understatement.

We are traveling from wellington, comparing with Chinese restaurant/take aways in Wellington, I would not recommend this restaurant for below reasons:1. The environment is average, we sit besides the window, and I can see flys were around, and their spoons, folks, and chopsticks were already on the table all the time. Who knows how many times the flys were on those items. Bad impression.2. Over priced food. The quality of the food is at 'take away' level, but the amount of the food is not very much, it is OK for me and my wife, since we were not very hungry, but if you are hungry, don't come, otherwise you need to order more meals than normal. They have two menus with different price, eat-in menu is $8 more expensive than take away menu for each meal. They call it service fee. However the service is bear minimum. We ordered two meals and eat in, the cost is $72.5, so to sum up we paid $36.25 each person for a take away level food, and the amount of the food is not up to take away level. $16 out of $72.5 is 'service fee'.3. I don't like the way the server say things. As a trvaller when I first notice that they have two different price menu, and asked the server whether the menu price for eat in is different from the take away menu, the server just mentioned that 'there is a small difference'. Maybe I misunderstand what the 'small' means. $8 more for each meal is 25% - 30% more for a $24 - $27 take away meal. That is a lot! They treat me like an idiot and I need to work out the price difference myself.4. This Chinese restaurant is quite anti-chinese. I heard the customer next to us asked the owner if they are Chinese, she replied 'we are Hong Kong Chinese, not Chinese, there is a difference between Hong Kong Chinese and Chinese.' well I would suggest you to change your restaurant name to 'Hong Kong Chinese Take Away' but not use 'Chinese Take Away' because there is a difference. And I can conclude the difference is probably 'you can't speak Mandarin Chinese' and the meal is so much more expensive than a normal 'Chinese Take Away'.5. To conclude, I will never come again, because the average price for each meal is $36 on eat in menu, 25% of the price is service fee and the server treat you like an idiot. Environment is not clean enough and you may have health concerns when you see flys around and all the eating tools were already on the table in an open environment.Taste is average take away level but amount is less than normal take aways. Anti-Chinese owner. Over priced comparing with Chinese restaurant or Chinese takeaways in Wellington. Maybe this is not a proper comparison considering they are 'Hong Kong Chinese Takeaways'.

Good food selection and very friendly staff. Food was good. Unfortunately we had a very noisy table next to us which made it an unpleasant experience.
