Globe Restaurant Napier

We ate here Friday 11/03/22. Was a really good experience. Food servings were sufficient to be shared nicely across four people. Priced well for what you get. The whiskey cocktail was nice more a 4 out of 5 ;-)The petit 4 was awesome!!! We got carried away eating and didn't take more photos. For a Friday evening the place was a bit quiet, so it's nice to get out and support local! Gisborne has a Globe and it's owned by the same people. Will definitely go and check it out to see if it's up to par with Napier.

Went here this evening with my husband & daughter. Fabulous food, pricing/value, service, decor & space. Often people only Google Review places when they’re unhappy (and I see in the past there’s been a few for this place..) but I’d hazard a bet that most people actually love their experience but they just haven’t gotten around to Google Reviewing. We were super impressed with the quality & quantity of the food - garlic bread, huge tender scallops, gnocchi, French fries, tiramisu, and the deconstructed baked cheesecake (a surprise favourite), and the service was super efficient! Plenty of servers and they were all great. The decor really is incredible - so much attention to detail with lots of stylish trinkets around the place.Also impressed with how large the space actually is so you’re not sitting on top of each other. If you go further in there seems to be like an almost separate extra room etc, also beautifully decorated I’m sure and I saw people enjoying yummy cocktails in there and people in nice wee nooks closer to the main area too.

So, we stayed upstairs in the Art Deco Masonic, Napier and thought we would check out The Globe, we jumped online and we’re wowed by their menu so we decided to wander downstairs for dinner. After a couple of delicious tasting cocktails (that had far too much ice and not enough cocktail in them) we sat down to eat and found a one page a4 photocopy menu sheet with around a third of the menu online and it looked like pub food menu. We wanted two of the things on menu both were sold out, so ordered other food which came quickly but was very disappointing, overcooked, not “loaded”, bacon sitting in juice. Thought we would like 2 Macarons to take back to our room with coffee they weren’t available either. Some of the staff were lovely but service not great overall. Would not be back in a hurry but would be prepared to try Palmerston North Globe. We have learnt to check menu before sitting down.

The concept of the menu was fun, but the execution left something to be desired.

You know you’re in trouble when the menu is shaped like the entire planet... “Just pick one thing and do it right”Too many things on the menu from all over the “Globe”.The food isn’t terrible, just under seasoned, soggy batter on okra, stodgy Arancini.The pastrami sliders were cold in the centre but hot on the outside.It’s all edible, but it’s pretty average.In a town where there are countless bars and restaurants serving one style of food really well, don’t know why you’d go somewhere that’s trying to cook literally every cuisine on the planet?Hopefully they pick 10 good things and just do those.

Venue: beautiful & interesting place to sit. Comfortable and out of the elements.Drinks: Hot drinks were average. Iced drinks were average (bitter) or lukewarm.Service: Couldn't tell for one of the staff if he was staff or a customer, which is at odds with the high-class offering & price-point. Wait times for coffee were quite long. Seemed highly disorganized - had two orders come to our table that weren't for us.
