Sock World Hokitika's Online Wool Yarn and Sock Store
I'm a knitter, and most frequently, a sock knitter, so I found this little shop / museum fascinating. I came away with some lovely sock-weight wool (yarn), and a yearning to own one of the machines. The old advertisements were of the 'make money at home' kind, likely very tempting in the 20's and 30's. Would love to visit again.

Socks say New Zealand, then in fine print made in china. No mask no entry, exemption not accepted, despite the woman not wearing her mask. Cheap china products and poor service.

The people at this shop are rude and judgemental. My friend called from overseas to get details on an item in the catalogue and the person on the phone accused her of intellectual property theft, belittled her work and was incredibly nasty. When she contacted the shop email to inform them of how badly she was treated the person told her she agreed with the poor treatment with which her coworker treated my friend and that it was my friends fault she was yelled at a belittled. This is definitely not the best yarn shop in the world but they are in the running for the rudest and meanest.

This must be the dullest place in hokitika.....I dont think that many socks are made here and there is not much of a museum apart from some old machines.

I hate reading the reviews that have been left . I have brought a lot of wool from this shop and just love ❤ it.I haven't brought socks or other garments, because I am a spinner and knitter.I do wish to add , if you buy Merino tops jackets ect and woollen jumpers and sock , read the tags , they have to say Made in NZ ,if they say NZ Wool made I China its our wool and made in china, these garments are in kmart and warehouse and street stalls cheap as . Be aware !This shop is top and there hanks of wool Marino are superb x sue
