We spent New Years Eve here with our family and camped in a tent. We enjoyed the country hospitality with a pot luck dinner, bonfire and live music for their annual event.Such a great place for families to stay with a neat little river to swim in, bush walks and wild horses. A shame we didn't have the time to explore more, there is so much more to do there and in surrounding areas so we suggest to book at least 2 nights. We will be back again soon for a longer visit and make the most of the serene area. This is Real New Zealand!

Very nice campground to get away from it all. The kitchen, toilets, showers, etc were all much better than I would have expected. And they have a small museum. Wow. How many other campsites leave you better educated? The leisurely walk to Fossil Canyon is worth it. I even found a couple of fossils.

Thank you for making us remember what camping really is! This place was very relaxed, as you had no service on phones it was a great way to spend quality time to yourself or people who you are with. There was a great vibe to the camp with kids playing about and very friendly faces, also pet friendly which is always a bonus. And all other pets there were kept on led or were very friendly. Toilets, shower and kitchen were spotless! The shower wasn’t the best but does the trick for being in the middle of no where. Thank you for a great experience, definitely a highlight to our end of year trip!!!!

This campground is a hidden gem worth the drive. Jo was super friendly, she supplied kindling and wood for the outdoor fire and some great tips for the area. The walk to the canyon is worth it if you have the time, beautiful and serene. Great experience and would definitely return.

If you're off the beaten track on the Forgotten World Highway, get off the beaten track a little more. 6km down a gravel road there is a little oasis in the Tangarakau Gorge. Owners are exceptionally friendly and hospitable. The campsite is large and flat with choices of being in the open or under the shade of trees. There are a few power sites and some cabins for those who want a bit more luxury. Kitchens & toilets are spotlessly clean. Take the time to walk or cycle up the side of the river to the amphitheatre, a spectacular natural bowl and enormous rockface with wild horses, goats and pigs milling around.

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been to! The gorge is truly like its own mini national park but with a kind of peacefulness I haven't found anywhere else.On top of all that; the rooms are cozy, the facilities are amazingly clean, the fire is warm, and Jo is incredibly kind (plus great with a guitar). I'll be back here as often as I can manage!

Wow, what am amazing experience it was to camp out here. Our first camp experience as a family of 5 (with one toddler) and we felt so relaxed and accommodated. With no internet or phone coverage meant we could unwind from the usual hustle and bustles of everyday life and make memories to last a lifetime. Hosts were fantastic, very laid back and friendly. Facilities whilst basic had absolutely everything that we needed. Wish we could have stayed longer, so no sooner had we departed that we began to plan our next trip back :)

Such a beautiful place and so silent, just sounds of nature and wildlife. The hosts were great and really inclusive - had the fire going and many drinks consumed. What all camp sites should be and don’t forget to do Fossil Canyon, breathtaking
