Western Bay of Plenty District Council Dog Pound

The people who work here are among the most corrupt human beings I have ever had the displeasure to meet. My sister's dog ended up here when he escaped through a hole in the fencing, and she is still trying to get him back. They are charging her an insane fee, even though this is a one-time occurrence and they only held onto him for a day. Having lost her job due to COVID, it would be nice to see a little more compassion displayed. I always knew that dog pounds only cared about the money and couldn't care less about the animals, but now I know for sure. Dog pounds only exist to squeeze money out of people as they hold their beloved pets at ransom. To them, the sweet reunion between pet and owners means nothing. I honestly don't know how they sleep at night.

Two men from the pound came to pick up a dog I had found on a highway and they were amazing. They were very gentle with her and took their time. They didn't just take her and go they explained to me the process and were very genuine. Thankyou for looking after these animals.

They truly are so corrupt I am in shock and awe how this kind of behaviour exists in New Zealand!! They will lie manipulate and use their power of position to do and say whatever the heck they want they do NOT care about pets or animals or people’s feelings!!

Worst place with the most horrible savage people working here! They have zero care for you or your pet!
