Nice place to spend free time hiking or bird watching. There are a variety of species on the island, approximately 500. You will learn a lot that are historical scientific you didn't know about this predator-free scientific reserve. Go to here on a sunny day and you will get to love Wellington region more than ever.

Somes Island is breathtaking. Tent camping or staying in a cabin overnight, for at least one night, is something I STRONGLY reccommend.
